Who you calling an old fogie?

This strikes me as gratuitous pessimism, particularly given what we've recently seen from Ricoh. Essentially, Ricoh is doing everything they reasonably can to save the Pentax brand. And we're angry because they dare to put their name anywhere on the camera? Why do some people here have such a bad attitude about Ricoh? Would it really be preferable if the Pentax camera division was still run by Hoya? But Hoya didn't want the camera division; they were going to sell it regardless. Under such circumstances, Ricoh seems to me the very best buyer that we could possibly have hoped for. (And if there were a better possible buyer, who would that have been?)
Would you rather have a camera with "Hasselblad" or one with "Fisher-Price" added to the name? I've never desired to own anything Ricoh. I didn't know about until a co-worker asked if he could borrow a lens when he thought the mounts looked similar back in '81.

I'm not going to get one basically because it's more camera than I need and I can't afford it anyway but I don't get the heat here over the Ricoh name here. I already have Pentax cameras in the kit that say Honeywell, Asahi, and Hoya. Who cares if one says "Ricoh" too? I'd rather see both but even if it said just "Ricoh" and nothing but "Ricoh" if it means I'll still be able to buy a quality K mount camera and lenses in the future I'm not going to sweat it. I'll still consider myself a Pentaxian and will so long as I own any camera that says Pentax on the front and I have several. I actually have several M42 cameras that are not even Pentax. Most notably I have the GAF, a Sears Chinon and I'm proud to own that. It's an utterly cool camera. Being a Pentaxian isn't just about having the right branding on your camera body. It's about what kind of gear you use. A name is just a name. Names change. So long as the gear stays good that's what really matters. "A rose by any other name, and all..."

My first SLR reflex was a Ricoh K5 ( k5? the same as my pentax ) and then a k10. I wanted Pentax or Nikon or whatever, but the it was I could afford and was told by the seller that it is one of the most underrated cameras. Everybody thinks since it is cheap it should be nasty. It was ( and still is a quality camera and I for one will be proud to display Ricoh on my Pentax

Funny, that "totally useless feature" is one of the primary reasons I'm getting a K-3. I guess that makes me and everybody else shooting moving pictures nobodies.

That's impossible! It's totally useless! No one uses totally useless stuff cause it's not wanted! Clavius said so!

I don't plan on purchasing any more cameras with mirrors.
Is this some form of photographers Catoptrophobia? Here take my K5IIs - I'll just take the mirror out of it.

What's even funnier is that you're confirming my opinion by being the only one I've seen that's actually excited about it. You know very well in what context I was stating that, that's why you left that out of the quote.

That wins the prize for "dumbest thing I've ever read on this forum".

Brilliant!

$5 to the first person that can post a picture of a "Pentax" camera that has no other corporate name on it!

full frame sensor and all of my Pentax lenses so my 24mm F1.4 PK mount lens still has a super-wide angle FOV along with all my other full frame PK mount lenses like my 15mm F2.8 Sigma that has a 180° diag FOV . If you know of a better full frame camera to use all of my PK mount lenses in their native 35mm SLR FOV let me know.
The way things are going with Ricoh - there will be soon enough.

My first SLR when I was 19 was the Canon Pellix QL with 58mm F1.2 lens in 1966
I used a Canon EOS 1N RS from my families camera collection a few years back that uses a fixed pellicle mirror, nice camera.

Your avatar photo says a lot. It is possible to take a still image with a mirrorless camera, but I have found that having a viewfinder for framing helps a lot.

Steve
The OLED EVF is just as good as an OVF IMHO to frame an image. The K-3 works just like my K-7 with fixed LCD and to me that is obsolete today IMHO.

After the name change of the website, I expected name changes on cameras to follow suit.
I hope they don't put Ricoh on the front of the camera, but I think that time will come eventually.
It will be a sad day if Pentax is no longer mentioned in the camera market the same way as Minolta is, but I will still buy a Ricoh-branded DSLR.
Then again, it may be a way to let casual consumers know that Ricoh and Pentax are one and the same.
I've spoken to a lot of people who have only heard of Canon, Nikon and Sony.
And to add, Japan does like its collaborations.
