Yep...the OP edited the original post to make his assertion sound more reasonable, but the fact remains that this thread is based on silly, through-and-through...well, maybe not completely. There are actually some pretty good posts here.

Now, regarding the destruction of Tokyo...

No that would mean it's really really not doomed. We need an english to english translator, for people who speak "high English". Pretty tall stuff for a language that combines elements of german, latin and french in what could best be described as one of the most bastard languages ever created.
Their they're, know kneed two bee mien.

Corrected: English Grammar ain't never not doomed!

I read somewhere that many of our stranger rules (like never to split infinitives) were inflicted in the 19th century by scholars who were trying to suppress the "bad" German elements in favor of "good" Latin ones.

What? They aren't gone by now? They've been doomed for so long that their final exit from the face of the earth will be such an anticlimax.
They are waiting for Tokyo to be destroyed. When that happens the sea will open and the OP will appear and balance will return to the thread.

This thread is a tribute, to lateral thinking, thinking outside the box, and thinking as if the box never existed.

I received the Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature.

That probably explains a lot.

Actually, some people who keep track of and make official announcements on these things have proclaimed that the double negative is now acceptable in English, and pointed out that it already is acceptable in many other languages. The double negative adds emphasis rather than negates itself.

You folks need to keep up, if you're going to be so critical.
Well, I think some double negatives are OK, as a way of tempering an overall negative statement. "It's not the worst cheese sandwich I've ever eaten" vs. "That's a really, stinking bad cheese sandwich!"

But in general, I don't think they are great.

It's amazing how the topics in this thread constantly try to merge into one, with so little success.
