They were actually cattle dogs, bred to be small enough to be comfortable riding side saddle on a horse. The breeders have increased their size to un-manageable proportions (in terms of horse back riding ability), and theres a movement amongst purists to promote what are now called "mini australian shepherds" that while called mini, are actually the 20-30 pounds they were when they were working dogs.

Mine really likes cheese. In fact I tell folks she's a cheese hound. I often forget to mention the Australian thing. I find it surprising that folks who originally bred these animals even knew there was such a place as Australia. I wonder if all the Texas Ranchers had such a good grasp of places of the world.

We could start a petition to officially have the breed re-christened "Cheese Hounds"

Cheese should in a perfect world, have it's own breed of dog. If they don't make it as "Cheese Hounds", "Bacon Hounds" would be good too. She also loves bacon.

Right now she's a "Blue Merrill Mini Australian Shepherd"

We'd have to decide whether to call her a " Blue Merrill Cheese Hound, or a "Merrill Blue Cheese Hound."

OK, the whole gluten thing is depressing. I'm with Ex Finn on that one - break out the black tape.

And it does appear this thread has gone to the dogs. Although, a Texas Cheese Hound might be a good mascot.

By the way, I had Monterey Jack cheese, summer sausage, and crackers for lunch. But now that you mention it, THoog, a chili cheese dog would be awesome! It's been a while since I've had one.

I had antelope sausage with Swiss. The antelope was from Texas. Cheese from Minnesota. A Minnesota cheese hound is also known as a Labrador retriever. Too big a dawg to ride a horse side saddle but nearly big enough to pass for a horse. So a cheese horse, perhaps?

OK already. Enough Algonquin Memories. We are officially 12" and no sign of Tapering yet. 10 degrees on the way to -10 degrees. I can only adjust the menus on my camera-to-be-gaffer-taped so often before I am unchanging (dechanging? dischanging?) what I just changed. When I signed the Occupancy Permit application this was not in the permanent residency clause.

It is actually too cold to go outside and take pictures. At least they got the furnace fixed yesterday.

And we have a good supply of cheese.

At my home slightly north of the 47th Parallel on Lower Ten Mile Lake Road in Minnesota, dawn temp was -38F. Right now it has warmed to the daytime high of -18F. No Texas cheese hounds out and about. And too cold for my beloved DA Limited lenses. Aluminum body will precipitate water when brought back inside. I use one gallon freezer bags to stash the camera and lens outside so condensation only occurs on the outside of the Baggie, but at this temp the ziplock fractures. And that is why I won't buy a K3---this month.
