My senior year in HS I bought my first car. Bought it brand new, right off of the showroom floor. (Literally. It took them a half hour to shuffle cars around to get it out.) It was a 1972 Honda Coupe. 600cc 2 cylinder air cooled 63 HP engine. Redlined at 63mph.
How's that for not glorious?
But glorious to you, no doubt. First car always is.

Yep. It could have said Cadillac or Mercedes on it. It would have felt the same.

And if you need to drive cross-country, you just pop it into the trunk on the Oldsmobile, and off you go!

Gawd you guys make feel old. My first car:

1958 Chevy Impala, Police Interceptor 348 with two four barrel carbs. Hirsch short throw stick on floor. Rear axle posi-traction. Bought it used in 1960 for $900. The car went 0-60 in less time than a beer burp. The paint was several coats of metallic British racing green, hand rubbed. It came that way, all I did was wax it. I was seventeen. I waxed that car a lot.

But would it hold enough cheese to sustain the operator for a cross-country trip?

Depends on the MPG (miles per Gouda) - but that's really depends on the driver, not the car. Looks like there's enough room in the back for a couple good-sized rounds - more if you replace the Honda wheels with cheese wheels. You could be in trouble if you are into big-block Cheddar...

Used to drive to UP Michigan skiing from Mpls. Took pounds of cheese. In Wakefield, MI we stayed at the Wakefield Hotel: $3 per night. Bar was open to seventeen and up as the local cop thought it safer for kids to drink inside a bar than driving around and crashing into Lake Superior.

Once we took cooked bacon in aluminum foil and ate it with Velveeta on the drive. Back then there were no Baggies. Baggies appeared about ,two years later, with contraband vegetable matter inside.

And I did not have a Pentax back then. I think I had the first Yashica slr with some kind of automated selection choice between aperture and shutter speed.

And that is why I won't buy a K3.

My grandmother sold me her 1963 Impala SS [EDIT: my brother corrected me. They didn't offer a 396, only yhe 409 ] 396 327/300 Convertible (Red over Black) for $50. My father arranged it. He thought in 1971 I couldn't do anything in a '63 barge with bucket seats and a console-shift Powerglide. Uhmmm, Dad . . . . there was nothing we didn't do in that car.
I traded a 1966 VW Beetle for a 1966 Impala SS396, bucket seats, console shift Turbo 400, posi rear end, blue with a vinyl top, factory rally wheels with the trim rings and center caps. Straight across. The owner kept getting arrested for street racing, reckless and negligent driving tickets, and lost his license one too many times.

One of the best cars I ever owned.

I still regret selling that car. Today you couldn't touch one in nice condition for less than what a small house used to sell for.

Of course I also had a hard time keeping myself out of jail (for street racing), lost my license once because of my tendency to mash the loud pedal, and it was running me to the poor house keeping tires on the drive axle. That was when gasoline was still under $1.00 a gallon.
