Ah, the benefit of young people in the home. Good luck to yours if she applies. Mine is pleasantly surprised by how much she likes it. There's a story there, but not really for a thread, even this one.

Well, the panic is on in NC as well - they are talking 1-2 inches (OMG!!!) plus the dreaded Black Ice, which could bring all infrastructure to a halt for weeks, so I must rush out and buy all the B/M/TP I can find. The grocery stores really should have those inflatable flappy-guy things outside when there is a snow or hurricane alert.

We don't have much of a cheese making industry - they could spray the roads with the byproduct from our major agri-industry (poultry/hogs), but I don't think they'd like the results...

Bread / Milk / Toilet Paper. Some folks add 'eggs' or 'soup', but those are the essential three. And always a month's supply, instead of just enough to cover the couple days when the roads are bad.

Around here our reaction to the news that there will be several inches of snow overnight is a bit different than where you are. Around here its more like, "Damn, now I have to get up 15 minutes earlier to get to work on time".

But they put their name on it. On the FRONT, no less. I'll bet that's why they aren't still being made. To quote the OP; "Shot themselves in the foot".
Like I said, perfect!

In fairness, we aren't equipped to handle it like northern states (wouldn't be worth it when it only snows once or twice per year), and what we do get is usually more ice than snow. The natives go to ground because they know they don't know how to drive on ice, and most of the cars in the ditches are SUVs with out-of-state tags.

But it is amusing / infuriating to be stuck behind a car driving 25mph with the blinkers on because there's SNOW!!! on the shoulders and the pavement is clean and dry.

Oh, the locals would never do that (well, not intentionally). "Them dang fer'ners" are politely given directions to the nearest north/west/southbound interstate.

My thoughts exactly. This is particularly unforgivable since Ricoh has a history with solar-powered cameras.

I am holding out for a FF Pentax with solar panels and NO Ricoh on the back and that is why I am not buying a K-3.
