And the best advice yet (posted by someone, several pages ago, I am catching up, yes), to be heeded by all young guys, is..."when drunk don't mess with a beaver!

Around here, beavers are generally regarded as a cross between opossums and termites.
I know possum make excellent road-kill but I didn't know they make dams too!

We don't have many beaver around here anymore. They have been replaced by the dam-less, grass-eating, hole-digging nutria. I suspect that they even outnumber the opossums.

They don't make them, nor do they, in the words of Rhett Butler, give them.

Beaver, however, are only noticed when they interact with humans in the role of possums (road-kill) or termites (wood destroyers). I saw a beaver chugging across the lake in a local park awhile back, and no one knew what it was. I think someone said "alligator".

After further thought, maybe possums do build dams. It's just that they build them across roadways (their natural habitat), and we mistake the fallen trees for the work of wind and weather. But do we really know?
