Originally posted by Parallax I had a bout with that that started in '09, for no apparent reason, and lasted until about a year and a half ago. At times standing up from a chair was agony, and any other movement wasn't much les painful. There was no position I could lay in that was pain free. Then it went away. I haven't had a problem, other than some occasional minor discomfort for some time now.
What's your secret?
I have degenerative disc disease in my cervical spine, the aftermath of the thoracic compression fractures, and 2 ruptured lumbar discs. Adaily regimen of a certain little pill helps but is not a permanent cure.
I stretch.
I use heat, sometimes ice.
I get a massage when it can be worked into the schedule. The Newell truck plaza in Newton Kansas has some Chinese gals upstairs that give a killer massage for $50, but I don't get by there often enough! The turn 3 of them loose all at once, and it is like the Swedish deepo tissue work, from head to toe, frontal and dorsal. Excellent and highly recommended!
Used the Teeter thing until the hip revision and the surgeon says there is a risk that it could pull the stem out, so I haven't done that for a couple years.
I have a TENS unit, but like most everything else it is purely palliative.
Talked to a spinal surgeon a while back. He says none of it is bad enough to warrant the risks of surgery. And based on the poor results other people I know who have had "repairs" done to their spine, I have to agree that surgical solutions may never be an option.
And I blame it all on the hociR.
