Thanks all on the name Fat Tuesday. Of all the things mentioned the only one I was not familiar with was the name 'Fat Tuesday' and that that is a translation of Mardi Gras.

The Protestant view makes neither the fasting nor the pre-partying 'proper'. Book 4 of Calvin's Institutes presents an interesting argument against 'fasting' in the sense of giving up one thing - that was the time, in his criticism, that the Catholics would consume the most exotic of delicacies because they were fasting from ordinary stuff.

I wasn't aware of that. Thank you for pointing it out. Having always enjoyed Gilliam's work I will now have get this one and watch it. I read a review of it just now and it intrigues me.

It is an anomaly of Hollywood that allows for the performance of actors and actresses after their departure from this life.

Back when I smoked I gave cigarets and the wife gave up caffeine for a news years resolution one time. By 6 pm each was releasing the other. It was either that or someone was going to die.

Europeans know how to make coffee. America is slowly learning. The British still think you should be able to read a newspaper through a quart carafe.

A spoon should not stand up in a cup of coffee, but if it falls over fast enough to 'clink' against the rim, the coffee's too weak.
