If your grits are a true "mush", then you've overcooked them. (Trying to beat them to death, eh?)

The beauty of grits is that they don't interfere with the flavor of whatever is put on top of them or mixed in with them. The same sort of effect that fish have in French cuisine - the secret is in the sauce, not the bland fish. But the grits have better texture than the fish, in my experience.
Stir in a little bacon fat (or maple syrup or even cheese) and voila, just thought I should ad a little french to go with the previous post...

Bacon scrapings, shredded mild cheddar and a bit of molasses - grits. Add Tabasco to taste.

Why all the bamboo? Getting a Panda instead of one of them blankety-blank DSLRs from the hociR?

I'm glad that some people here have an idea of what can be done with grits.

I wouldn't recommend bacon or eggs mixed in with your drywall grits. Or butter. But that's just not a tasty combination.

My Mom makes very nice mashed potatoes ... and she loves grits. Go figure ...

Also, her mom made the BEST fried okra in the world. Period.

No Southern food sub-menu ... so that's "why I won't buy a K-3" TM !!!

We already have bacon and we have a dunk tank instead of beer!

Much more fun!
Even better when the dunk tank is full of beer!

Beer.

Is there anything it can't do?

John Wayne was not a Southerner. He was born in the Heartland of the US, but lived and worked in Los Angeles. He also had residences in many places, both the US and abroad.

Marion Mitchell Morrison (born Marion Robert Morrison; May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979), better known by his stage name John Wayne was born in Winterset, Iowa on May 26, 1907.

He owned an island (Spieden Island, currently owned by Oakley founder James Jannard) in the San Juan archipelago in Washington state, and an island off the coast of Panama, Isla Taborcillo. Wayne was an avid sailor. He owned several yachts, including the Wild Goose, which was originally a US Navy Mine Sweeper, and the Norwester, a 76 foot motor yacht.
