Back to sport: In Oz we used to complain about the starting time of a game being dictated by the TV stations, but at least the advertising is generally restricted to genuine breaks in play (in football - ie Aussie Rules - when a goal is scored there will be an ad while the ball is returned to the centre circle: in cricket, when there is a wicket taken or a drinks break or a streaker disrupts play.) We actually see the whole game! 100 minutes of football and 1800 minutes (!!!) of cricket.
I can see a research project possibility for some PhD candidate on while Americans would watch 3 hours of TV to see only 12 minutes of play.

And yes, I eat Velveeta on special occasions, such as Super Bowl weekend.

I would also love to try your delicacy called poutine, if it was made from Velveeta curds.
