16 inch wide luxury seating? No free bacon bits?!? Cheap cheddar instead of Velveeta on the crackers ?!?! Oh the horror!

BTW. Are today's planes falling out of the sky more often, or am I just remembering the past wrong?

When they can't get your "carry on" luggage and you to the same airport on the same day, there's a problem.
When a flight is an hour and 45 minutes late "due to weather" and the same flight one week later is late, almost to the minute, "due to weather" as the previous; there's a problem.

We're routinely 'green' ticketed, a little green label slapped on our stubs stating 'Landing subject to weather' (and whether the pilot feels like landing or not.) As long as it's weather, the passenger pays any lay-over. And our airlines seem to think we are stupid. I'm not going to call my wife who's waiting for me and discover there's no celing at either end of the route and both have 16 km visibility laterally.

Same basic situation as I encountered. We didn't miss our coonectio, but our son missed his and spent the night ad half of the next day in the Denver airport.

Actually the fall outs are less common now - even by absolute count. And as a proportion of all starts they are considerably less. Just the cost cutting at the news services - once they get onto a story they keep talking about the same one for ages making it seem worse than it was.

I flew on 727's quite a few times. Then, of course, many flights on 737's. My favourite airplane is still, and probably always will be the 747. In the days before 9/11 I even managed to fly in the cockpit on a 747, on the jump-seat.

You tried the 380. One day I had great fun, climbing to the top of St Peters in the Vatican with one of the bosses on that project. Good view from the top. I had three rides on his plane before he did.

I've heard the horror stories, but I've never had an issue with TSA. It's been my experience that it's the airlines themselves who have gone out of their way to make flying a very unpleasant way to travel.
Yeah...them too! As for TSA...I get the full pat-down every time due to my prosthetic shoulder. It shows on the scan in much the same place as a shoulder holster.

Well, I had a 3 lb dry salami wrapped in foil in my carry-on. The TSA agent and I were both chuckling as he took it out and swabbed it for explosives.

Why are airline passengers always described as being 'stranded' whenever there is a big delay at the airport?

Because it's a better news headline that "A flight was delayed."

Why do new stories say that, officially, 2 people were killed and one injured BUT Unofficial Unsubstantiated Rumours say that the death toll could be up to 179? Every time I hear one of the talking heads say 'But', I cringe.

That's news-speak for "We have no idea what's going on, but we're going to report on it anyway.
"Never let the facts get in the way of a good story." ~Mark Twain The quote is commonly (well, by me anyway) referred to as The Journalist's Creed.

A gal pal of mine she learned the hard way not to take adult toys through the security check out with her. She was meeting her hubby. He's military, and he's based overseas. She met him halfway when he finally got leave after like a year and she brought a bag full of fun stuff for them to play with. The TSA agents had no mercy. They took them all out, made sure everyone in the place saw them, cracked a bunch of bad jokes. Apparently she was not the only one to be subject to that humiliation. They've been sued since for that. Me, I would never, ever take with. Nope, uhuh. That's like asking for it with those jerks... :P
