Yeah, real downer books, both of them. Read them for Lit II. I don't hate them but I wouldn't read them again. One book I will never, ever read again is Wuthering Heights. I like some Bronte books. I truly love Jane Eye, for instance, but I just cannot stand Wuthering Heights and in particular Heathcliff. Even for a Gothic anti-hero he's sickening and abusive. I read the book for Lit II and watched one movie version of the story only because Jonathan Firth was in it playing Linton Heathcliff and though I blush to admit it I absolutely will watch total crap so long as he's in it for more than 5 minutes. In this case not more than once though. One viewing of that sick tale was by far too many for me...

I think in the 19th Century there were plenty of authors who were wordy with a lot of vocab and complicated paragraph construction, but didn't make Poe's mistakes - Thomas Hardy, Henry James (try 'Turn of the Screw' if you like ghost stories) and Joseph Conrad come to mind.

But Poe's visions left a big impression on this youngster (he took the 'woe is me' of the Romantics and ramped it up with the supernatural) so he'll always get a hall pass from me!

Did you know there are a number of hidden object games out there loosely based on Poe's stories and usually with his detective? I've done most of them and enjoyed them very much. I don't know if you are into casual computer games but if you are you might want to check them out. They're rather fun. They've done Murders In The Rue Morgue, The Black Cat, The Gold Bug, Fall of The House of Usher,The Mystery of Marie Roget, The Premature Burial, Masque of the Red Death and a couple of others that are more based on Poe himself...

Ken is alright in my book. After all, it is hard to not respect a guy with a constantly growing family who supports such with a photo blog!
