If you can use the cash and turn a profit with it, then its a good opportunity to take advantage. Using other people's money is a good way to get ahead if you have something that is a surefire money maker.
That makes sense, of course. Taking loans to work with the money makes sense, I think my father's advise was more tailored towards personal consumption.

What about the damn squirrels? You guys are running out of time and are not getting the job done. Since you have stalled out on reaching the goal, Otis now wants to know what you can offer to get his Giant Army to bail this goal out in time?

He says maybe a few shots of Jim-Parallax eating a Spam sandwich with a couple of thick slices of Velveeta on it would be a start?

Regards!

Yes.....and I agree with your father. His point I am sure is that if you can't afford it don't buy it. If someone wants to help you buy it, and you can afford it, then it is a different story. Like BillMeLater with PayPal....I've used it often. When I can use their money for free, why not!

It is a shame more parents don't teach their children good financial skills as your dad did. My dad spent a lot of time teaching me respect for finances and it has been hugely beneficial to me all my life. I passed it down to my own children and they are both very financially secure and often mention that my teaching got them off to a good start.

From what I see in this world today many parents today only have bad financial skills......and that is what they pass along to their children.

I tried to teach Otis, but he said squirrels need no financial training , if they want something they just steal it.

Regards!

I had to learn finances on my own because my family is all poor and has a poverty mindset. That really exists too. They get money and have to spend it on things they don't need, generally on high priced rent to own stuff, then lose it. They love me at Christmas.

My dad keeps telling me that it is time for me to get a new car. Mine works great with no trouble. I've taken very good care of it, but I do drive a lot so it has high miles at 208k now. I ran the warranty out in a year. Bought it used on December 17, 2010 for a good deal with 44k miles on it as a GM certified used and had the remainder of the 5 year 100k miles powertrain and a 24 month bumper to bumper. Since it is completely paid for and runs well, with no problems at all, and has been maintained very well I see no need to get a new one at all. I always consider my purchases before making them and I am picky in stuff. Heck, I looked at 55 homes to get what I wanted in my price range.

Certainly not your fault Tim, that filthy minded little rodent Otis has his mind in the gutter so deep that he sees a "key word" and assumes it is about naked girls without even reading the rest of the post. He needs to keep his eyes over in the Post Your Photos thread where he can do his "Artistic Evaluation" among those that better appreciate his perversions. But...even after I made him read it over twice, he still said he is not interested in seeing you strip...and I really can't fault him for that?

Best Regards!
I am most pleased about his specific lack of desire.

My father said the problem with borrowing to buy consumption stuff is that in the end you feel like you are working for someone else, just to pay off the borrowed money.

And later one will not have the money to buy what one needs then, so the cycle continues. John Wesley, who liked the town where I now live, had similar advice, and his followers have tended to break out of the poverty mindset ever since.

Well, they are compulsive savers, putting nuts away for when they might need them - but they are sloppy, and forget where their savings are. I found an oak tree growing in a planter on my deck. There are no oak trees near my home, so someone had to PUT that acorn there! (There is an oak on the other side of the parking lot on the other side of the building.)

Actually, they love people like this. They're still making money on the merchant side and don't have assets tied up.
People who pay cards off monthly tend to use cards more frequently, and that's where the CC companies make the money.
If you charge $100.00 the merchant gets, depending on the card, processing company, how the card is processed (chipped, swiped, keyed in, etc) somewhere between 95 and 97 dollars. The fee to the merchant is higher for rewards cards than for non rewards cards. That "cash back" comes out of the merchants' pockets, not the CC companies'.

Nothing lost really...they stole it to begin with and can always steal more...and do! Maybe it was only a marker to remind them to come back and eat the plants in your planter......?

Sometimes eating too much planter food makes squirrels lazy...

This tree rat remembered where his stash was, in my wife's wheelbarrow planter.

In German we would call that Fünffingerrabatt (five fingers discount) or ungebetene sozialistische Umverteilung (unsolicited socialist redistribution)

According to one study they forget the location of as many as 80% of their depots, thus are forced to hoard about five times the amount of nuts they actually need.

18 days, 995 posts. We can do this.

I've also read that if they know they are being watched, they will hide an acorn in their cheek and pretend to bury it, in order to throw the watcher off. It's surprising they remember even 20% of the real caches.

Also, the credit card system at the local McD's is down. I blame squirrels.
