I was just accosted by one of Otis' mangy cousins. I found her prowling around on my deck, and when I politely asked her to vamoose, she charged down the railing and jumped right at me! Okay, right at the screen door next to me, so that she could go up and over the roof, but it was less than a foot away.

They don't eat the flowers in my yard, but they continually nip them off their stems and leave then laying in the dirt. It is really ticking me off. I am seriously considering a pellet gun to handle the situation. It starts with crocuses in the the early spring and continues through the fall. No idea why they have suddenly started doing this the last few years.

Just because you think it is a squirrel doesn't mean it IS a squirrel.

I feel a little bad for her, because she really was mangy, and that's gotta feel awful, but it's no excuse for smashing up the plants. With the marigolds, it would always be a blossom that was JUST about to bloom, and then the next day the entire flower head would be gone, with just the base left on the stem. I would think birds would pick out the petals and seeds and leave the rest of the seed case. Based on where the flowers were, and the damage to surrounding plants, I got the impression it was someone about a foot tall.

LOL. No need to hang your German head! Great cars, Volkswagens. I have never not owned a V8, since my first car, but I stick with Fords or Landrovers, so it has to be said I'm perhaps not the most environmentally friendly car owner. But no diesels for me!

Not a good thing and no excuses here.

But, IMHO this is not as "bad" as compared to the Ford Pinto gas tank scandal.

People were burned to death in order to save a few production cost dollars.

Right in the same timeframe was the Firestone 500 tire issue. One of the jokes of the day was:

Worst pick-up line ever? "Hey babe; I just put some Firestone 500s on my Pinto. Want to go for a drive?"

Of course, a few years later there was a related story by NBC about how dangerous the side tanks on Chevy/GMC pickups were. How they would explode in a side impact crash.
NBC news staged a side crash that yielded a rather dramatic explosion. What they didn't say at the time was that in testing they couldn't actually get one to explode so for the story they rigged it with explosives. Somebody blew the whistle on them and, if I remember right, more than one NBC was unemployed after the story about the story came out.
