Originally posted by stevebrot Prices vary since the stores sell whole turkeys as a "loss-leader" this time of year. I saw ads for fresh (not frozen) for $1.99 USD per pound for a 10-20 lb bird. A month ago, I paid $1.63/lb for a frozen 14 lb turkey, on sale. So the cost for a turkey feast is usually less than $25-$30. For comparison, quality fresh ground beef is about $4-$5/lb and a beef rib roast usually $10/lb or higher.

Interesting! We pay about the same for "ground beef" or as we call it, "beef mince". A roast - not much more. Rump steak is around $19 / kg right now, so about $9 / lbs, but usually that's a holiday price hike - prices normally about $13 / kg, so roughly $6 / lbs.
