why I won't buy a k3 (Warning: Satire Thread)

I like looking at other people's veteran vehicles but I would not want the work of keeping it going. I had a grandfather who kept a Vanguard 4 cylinder sedan going until about 1995. A very old car that he used as his principal car. The work he had to put into it! About 40 years old, or more.

As I understand it, Tim, the grey Ferguson tractor had the same motor as the Vanguard.
There are still plenty of them running around on hobby farms.
(Perhaps they are all complete rebuilds and therefore their age started again from the date of the rebuild)
(Of perhaps all the owners' time is spent on maintenance - and that's why they are hobby farmers and not real farmers?)

To rent a place, even a small one, for two months would cost me at least the price of fixing the pole. And since I'm not looking to even apply until probably February, that means house shopping in February-March & closing/moving in maybe late March or early April. So, that would mean renting 3-4 months & easily twice the price of fixing this.

The 4 cylinder petrol MF tractor had the 4 cyl Vanguard engine. Drop in replacement either way.
The MF tractor was made in a diesel version which I have driven. A friend got one thinking he was buying the petrol version, till he got it home. He had hoped to buy petrol in bulk for his farm and save for his car, but ...

The 4 cyl Vanguard was much more reliable and less prone to rust than the 6 cyl Vanguard. There is one of them as a gate ornament at a place near Pt Augusta at the south end of Pichi Richi Pass.

I also resolve not to buy a blind-as-bat FF ... there's a silly crop mode on it for APS-C lens.

I already have several APS-C bodies ... who needs that ? WTF(art).

NB - My second resolution may be difficult to keep ... stay tuned to this "Bat Channel" ...
