It just sounds so odd that a government would criminalize something like the sale (and thereby the use of) a tape measure.
They knew that if they did not people would continue to use imperial and that would go against policy and also any hope of the country ever becoming a republic , for which there is still a way to go. How could the good citizens of a republic even think of measuring any thing in imperial units?

Metric sockets I can deal with but that (inevitable) ONE star shaped fastener really Torx me off.

I had to get a piece of equipment out of a server rack yesterday, only to find that someone had installed it with hex screws (the kind you have to use a hex key or "Allen wrench" on). We have dozens of systems in those racks, all installed by the same guys, and that's the only one like that. We don't even have a set of Allen wrenches in the toolbox, so I don't know how/why they did it that way; it had to have been harder than just getting some regular screws out of the enormous box we have for just that purpose. I had to get wrenches from home, and I made sure I chucked the screws in the trash when I was done.

To prevent this problem, I've bought some years ago a full set of bits - hex, torx, etc. Including the "security" types, like the three sided Philips, torx and hex with a pin in the centre, etc.

I have them all. In bits that fit my ratcheting Snap-On screwdrivers. In 3/8" and 1/2" drive sockets. You name it, I've got it. There is nothing that I cannot take apart.

Putting things back together may be another matter though.

I hate stuff with little springs inside so all the bits jump out unexpectedly all over the place when you take them apart.

Shades of Ranma 1/2 - Ranma is cursed and turns into a girl when splashed with cold water, but a boy with hot water. The joke is that he's an insensitive jerk when he's a boy, but when he's a girl, he's just as big a jerk.

Jean, how much do you pay for the cheap Bordeaux?
My wife wants me to find some wine for cooking and thinks 4.5 quid is far too much. We used to get a whole winery dozen (12 bottles), not a pub drive through dozen beers (15 bottles), for Aud48. They were the ones the winery did not out labels on. Amazing how much labels cost!

So, then he/she would not have the same troubles as SheZow when it comes to bikinis ... ?!

I pay between 4.50€ and 6.00€ for my young cheapies ... but I can go much lower than that ... or buy in bulk quantities for about the same range.

For cooking, like a Boeuf Bourguignon, we will use about a 2.00€ bottle ... gets the job done well IMHO.

Easy, just call them "US customary" or "standard" units.
