For cooking, like a Boeuf Bourguignon, we will use about a 2.00€ bottle ... gets the job done well IMHO.
Thanks. Need to do more watching when I get internet back properly and do not need to rely on the phone. How awful, looking at internet on such a little screen. So limits my view of the world to a scrap only.

Anyone feels like his or her wallet has been growing too heavy recently? B&H has a total bargain on offer right now, a Canon 1200 f/5.6L USM for only $180,000. No, I didn't mix up the zeros. If you plan to acquire it in the future but already want to make a first step, the fitted lens cover can already be had for $599.

From the product description:

"... calling this lens a 'tele' is like calling King Kong a monkey.

Built-to-order by Canon from 1993 to 2005, each lens was hand-crafted at the rate of about 2-per-year and a delivery time of about 18 months. Only a dozen-or-so were ever made. Who bought them? National Geographic magazine and Sports Illustrated are known to own a couple, the Feds probably have a few squirreled away somewhere, and a few well-heeled photo enthusiasts.

This particular lens is extremely clean inside and out. Included with this lens is a leather slip-on 'lens cap', the original fitted aluminum trunk case, a custom trunk case with wheels that holds the original trunk case, and a prodigious measure of ego satisfaction. Weighing in at over 36lbs and an overall length of 33 inches, a sturdy tripod and pan/tilt head is highly recommended.

Pack mule not included."

Bolding by me And it says 'squirreled away' - Rupert, you might want to check Otis' secret treasure hide.

and it's only 900 more mm than my new 300mm.
(sneaking in a pic here)

I fessed up to my wife about the purchase, figured even though she knows nothing about my gear, this thing might get noticed.

Well, if they had two of them I'd take them; but with only one my wife would be jealous, so I'll pass.

Probably best. One thing I've learned in 30 years of marriage is that there's a big difference in what they notice and what they let you know they've noticed.

Yep, when they tell you you are just as good as you always were....you know they have noticed you aren't!

Thought I would help fighting people like Bob and his posting of photo related gear by posting a few not relating to much of anything.

I found this crummy mobile phone shot of a match box from a hotel in Cape Town.

...and that hotel is a bit different in some ways, here illustrated by some images found on the Intarweb.

Their smoking room is called the "coughin room" and has its own styling.

The image in the ceiling has the same theme as this one, but is not quite the same.

The reception might give an impression of being under construction.

The lift takes you on a cable car ride.

Oh, speaking of toilet rolls, they have just the right toilet for those afraid of running out.

For those who like doing their business in more airy surroundings.

And for those who ain't afraid of onlookers.

Couldn't find any pictures of their swimming pool other than from the outside. One wall of the actual pool faces the dining area

We do need some veggies, but they don't have to be green.
Bacon wrapped water chestnuts, dipping sauce was a mix of bbq sauce and mayo.
