So you are saying the squirrel wasn't heroic and brave after all?

Just a new holding pattern for the city's airport, I suspect. I didn't wait very long for it to happen. I just got lucky.

The squirrels here may be wary of hawks, and our dainty little Annabelle, but they seem to be fearless when it comes to cars. A good many have become supplies for the Road Kill Cafe.

Maybe I should back off my bird watching for awhile.
I'm starting to see them in my food.
This is what greeted me this morning when I flipped over my banana pancake:
edit to say, this was my pancake, and the image was not created by me in any way, shape, or form.
should have put it on eBay I guess.

I remind you that for squirrels it is all about the odds and percentages.......You do recall the article where they attacked and ate that Russian dog.....?
And every so often a squirrel causes a car crash with severe consequences.
As Otis reminds, when you have billions of reserve squirrels in your Giant Army, sacrificing a few for the good of all is more of that " Big Brain Thinking".

Still have doubts? I like the part where the narrator says "Took him down!"

Squirrel Attacks Snake - Video | eBaum's World

I think Otis is right...at some point in the evolutionary progress of the earth, squirrels will be the "last man standing".

Anyhow, Mrs Rupert says she is pretty certain I won't make it into Heaven...and as a very dedicated religious person, I do trust her judgment. However, Otis has given me his Otis Guarantee that there is a place in Squirrel Heaven already prepared for me....as long as I continue to provide him and his Giant Army plenty of chow and gallons and gallons of cold beer in the hot summer months.

Regards!

I'm not sure about squirrels causing car crashes. Deer cause crashes, and in fact, such crashes kill more Americans annually than deaths from bears, wolves, mountain lions, poisonous snakes, and sharks combined. Squirrels do not make the list, no recorded fatal car accidents as a consequence of swerving to avoid hitting a squirrel. I suspect there is generally insufficient time to react, and many who would not bother trying. Statistically, among large animals (discounting mosquitoes) deer are the greatest threat to human life in the USA.

Well, for the old lady down the street from me it was fatal for her brand new Lexus last year...and it didn't help her insurance rate much either. And if you are looking to get one of those Big Brain Awards from Otis, I'd advise that you retrain your doggie to avoid squirrels....you just never know when squirrels will have a hunger attack.

Regards!

I am humbled and grateful. BTW...that is a great photo of the Cooper's Hawk. They don't sit still for long.

Thanks....I seldom get a shot of one around here. Lucky to be in the right place...right time. Several years ago I got this adult at the bird bath....

He took a good long bath on a hot day.

Otis claims they have an "Evil Eye".

Regards! & enjoy your Otis Award!

Yep, happens all the time.

Otis wanted to pose for this shot today so everyone could see his more serious side .......ready to fight.

Old Norm has been picking on Otis lately....and Otis says he can easily kick old Norm's butt....and he's seen that photo of Norm's butt, so he does know what he's talkin' 'bout!

Nice tractor. I learned to drive tractor on one very similar to that, though not nearly as pretty.

Question??? Where do you people disappear to? This thread will be rocking along nicely then just go dead?

Otis has a theory that the most ardent posters here get together in private and have a big lewdfish party. Then they spend hours afterward in intensive care puking their guts out before returning, as if nothing happened.

Is this true?

Regards!

There are threads for which I work to find something to post ("Alphabet Race" and "I Spy" among others), others that I follow regularly but post only now-and-then (this thread, Gear Porn, English Question, and Fisheye Fever among others). I suspect that applies to many of us. Too many threads to follow and post every day. My EMAIL gets clogged with notices - built up to over 200 at one point when I was dilatory deleting.
