What is that thread even about? Is it what I think it is? Just people counting up the alphabet?

It's a photo game - someone posts a picture from their photo collection of a thing starting with 'A', someone else responds with a 'B', and so on. Apart from the challenge of being next and finding the right photo, I think the appeal is the simplicity - you don't have to stick to a particular theme.

It started in October 2009, so it's had more time to grow than The Thread, but The Thread is closing in, little by little.

It was pretty epic, but look how it compares to post #12345:

True they need to self actualize as human beings and become the most irritating persons they can. After all one of the basketball coach mantras, is never ask a player to do something he can't do, he/she can only fail. If that's what they're good at, we should be helping them hone their craft. I had basketball players like that. Defensive players that while not terribly good players were excellent at getting under the other team's skin and keeping them from into getting into a rhythm, goading them into cheap fouls, and generally causing mayhem in the defensive zone. Every team needs a couple of those guys. I once heard one of them, down in his defensives stance, growling at them, insults about their mothers and stuff. Next time out I told him to tone it down, it was too much even for me. He was plenty irritating enough without the cheap stuff.

Floral motifs have been popular for arms and armour for almost six hundred years.

When a canny antique dealer in the 19th century made a bunch of forgeries (actually, he had about a dozen suits of armour made, each with one piece from the original pattern, making them all "restorations" instead of replicas), his artists copied etching designs from antique pattern books, not realizing that some of the 'hand' designs they used were actually rude gestures. They should have stuck to flowers.

Totally metal! (this is one of the tamer hands):
I reviewed a book once that was about communication in pictures for instruction manuals etc. One of the illustrations came from ancient Corinth - a series of footsteps and hearts, which apparently was carved into the street pavement in order to direct potential customers to a particular house of ill-repute. But the caption about the heart was interesting. In modern usage heart is associated (particularly in contexts such as that) with love (some people will debate the 'form' of the love) but the caption suggested it may have been a stylised drawing of pubic hair. And the gestures on your pictures, interpreted according to the modern interpretations, are quite appropriate when directed towards an opponent upon whom you wish to impose your will, in the same manner as the trash talk of their opposition that boxers give at their weigh-ins.

Waaa, German number plate!

I have one from France with RACER X 69. A fellow license plate collector had it made for me.

Maybe you could hook me up with one from Germany?

Not really. My father always forces the city office to make him absolutely random ones so people won't recognise him or his car by his number plate

We are averaging a little over 10,000 posts per year, so if we are both alive in twelve thousand years, I promise to support your claim!

I must remember, while awaiting that post, to avoid holding my breath.

Just think, by the time post 123456789 comes along, all our Pentax equipment will be archaeological artifacts. The plastic and glass may survive better than the beloved metal.

What do you call a man who will not fart in public? A private tutor!
