It looked too easy Carol....I always hated jobs that were just too easy......but unfortunately they never turned out as easy as they looked.

Last Saturday I went to the town market and bought some 'lardy cake'. The name sounds unattractive but it is a very nice kind of sticky sweet bun. I liked it enough to get another today. Also bought a cheese. It looks a little like stilton, but is rather more orange and a bit harder but has blue mould all through it like the stilton. Tastes really good. Must get more next time. It looks like a Shropshire blue but they sold it with a different name - probably the brand. Since I came here I have discovered many kinds of cheese I never heard of before.
See that is where you guys go wrong....all that shopping, all that confusion, all those decisions. Us Big Brain thinkers just go to the Velveeta rack and pick up a couple of boxes and are all done! Fast and easy and we are already sure it will be delicious!

A FF shot of my daughter-in-law and my son's Pig.......Pig loves bacon!!! ...and Velveeta! My son has her on a diet (the Pig) and was all over me for giving her bacon and a slice of Velveeta......I reminded him it is my house and my rules.....the Pig took a snap at him for his comments.

No flash in an unlit room......Tamron 70-200 @ 2.8 handheld 1/125 ISO 6400.......Not half bad considering..... gotta love the K1!

For those more interested in the Pig...here is a FF shot outside...isn't she so lovely! She follows my son's every move, and is spoiled rotten.

I had a "girlfriend" back in Jr High that had those big bulging eyes....I tried not to make eye contact, but her other attributes were spectacular!

Could be!

That reminded me of a cal I got about 25 years ago from a guy I knew that was a house painter...and a well known jerk. He wanted his gray water separated from his waste water and used to water his lawn. Pretty common around here to conserve water, and legal and in code if properly done.

What he wanted was a price. I told him without looking at his home and determining how and if it could be done, a price was not possible on the phone, but I'd be happy to come out to his place and give him a free estimate, even though he lived far across town.

Nope. He wanted a phone price and a "decent and respectable" plumber could give him a phone price. I skipped over his insult and went right to a subject that would interest him....a rental home I said I owned that needed painting. I described it well, a small frame house, two bedroom with 8 windows and two doors...single story......can you give me a phone price?

You know, he could, unlike a jack leg plumber! So I asked him when he could start on it.....Monday morning. That's great news, and I'll be expecting you and your crew.

Oh yeah, he asked.....where is it? New your City I replied...as I heard him curse and hang up.

Yep we all deal with a few idiots every so often!

Regards!

I don't know how any business man could give a quote for work over the phone, there are so many variables to take into account. Rupert, the good, honest ones like you; stay in business, others, not so much!

I found a really easy recipe for pickled eggs.

Boil the eggs, put in cold water, bring to boil and leave boiling for about 5 minutes, then allow to cool in the same water. When cold, shell and put in a big jar. Add the vinegar, which should be spiced according to your palate preference, and wait a few days. Keep in the fridge.

Botulism is not a big problem, since botulinum is one of those anaerobic thrivers, which is why it was first noticed as a problem with the rise of canned food.

After the EU Referendum's campaign's emotional rhetoric and result, here in Scotland, The (disunited) UK, its a great pleasure and relief to persuse a thread with so much commonsense and real world facts from the submitters.

Carol, in all my years I never went to bed thinking I might have overcharged or done someone a shoddy job. Many many of my best customers were little widow women and so easy to manipulate. Once the word was out that I was honest, safe, and had integrity those numbers grew and grew over time. I knew more widows than anyone in the county...and they knew me. Now I never got rich, but I guarantee I was never hungry and when others were at the Pawn Shop during bad economies and hocking their tools to pay bills....me and my helpers were working overtime and hoping we could keep up with the work.
I got calls in the middle of the night....."Jim, I hear strange noises and it sounds like a leak......." I'd get dressed and go. Or, "Jim...I can't reach to change a light bulb....if you are my way can you drop by?"...I'd make it a priority. So many calls like that and I addressed every one....at no charge. These were not only my customers, they were my friends and great people. If you put money second and service first, you will never be short of money. Most of my competitors never understood this...so I really had no competitors. Honestly, excepting the sometimes difficult and dirty work, it was a sweet life!

A short Rupert story......

One day Mrs Rupert was really ticked off at me....I can't recall just why...it happens, you know!
Well, she carried her anger to work and spread it around to her co-workers that I was a big jerk, mean spirited, and whatever else she could pin on me. After venting her anger, a little old lady, Mrs Dremel, came in to pay her electric bill. She wanted to meet Mr Jim's wife that she knew worked there. She was escorted to Mrs Rupert's desk...surrounded by all her co workers and spent the next 30 minutes telling Mrs Rupert how lucky she was to have a guy like me, how wonderful I was and how all her many, many friends that she had recommended me to felt identical. Mrs Rupert had to sit there and eat crow as Mrs Dremel went on and on with examples of my outstanding service and dedication, fair prices and unquestionable integrity.

When she left Mrs Rupert was harassed like crazy by her co-workers and came home and apologized to me for the bad things she had a said. Since then when Mrs Rupert gets on my case I always ask her...."Have you run those thoughts by Mrs Dremel?"

Best Regards!

My youngest son and my lovely daughter-in-law have been visiting this weekend. Last night we all sat around the living room in conversation......I think Janice was not impressed by old Rupert and my son in their conversations?

Shot in a dimly lit room with the K1 & Tamron 70-200 ....no flash. Not too bad for ISO 12800...and it printed even better!

Been a good weekend here, lots of great food.....plenty of maple bacon and those superb ribs from the Butcherman's smoker! Jim...I'm trying to find a way to get some more of his ribs to you.....I think I need some dry ice and a fast FedX shipment.

Regards!

Oh, I assure you Rupert, sir, that (without getting anywhere near political!) each and every one of the posts in here makes more sense than some of that... Even our founding father's first post!

That said I'd rather we left that topic alone before somebody goes on to turn this thread into politics I think we all can appreciate this thread as a refuge from the insanity of the world
