Pretty Much.....yes. Never could drink the stuff again......its strictly Beer now and that happened 25 years ago.

My first wife had a thing for tequila.

I got her some really good stuff for her birthday once, and we started off trading shots with lime and salt.

I woke up the next day, on the floor in a corner.

Puke everywhere.

My head was about as big as Baltimore.

I was sick for a week.

That was about 26 years ago.

I couldn't even stand the smell of tequila for over 20 years.

Now I exercise caution whenever I drink that stuff.

I like tequila. I like the flavor of tequila. Blanco; not reposado or anejo. I prefer the flavor of tequila to the flavor of the oak cask the reposado or anejo is aged in.
I cannot understand why people drink tequila then try to kill the taste with lime and salt.
If you don't like the taste, don't drink it. DUH!

Why do so many of us suffer from this problem?

Nekkid.

Or with salt and lime to enhance the flavor, not kill it.

Same for other liquors.

Not sure.

But it was the decisive moment for me. After that I learned to consume responsively. Now when I have an adult beverage, it is to enjoy the flavors, not to get sloshed.

Cheers!

I only recall the first few shots. The rest of the evening is forever gone, save for the ex wife's recount of my very poor behavior.

But I will never forget how sick I was, and how difficult it was to clean the mess up while I continued to regurgitate into a second bucket.

When I lived in Mexico for a spell in '70 I learned to love Tequila....mostly in moderation. They had a lot of regional brews sort of like moonshiners do here. My favorite was a small batch of family made Tequila that used ocatillo blooms in the distilling process. It had a very unusual but savory flavor and nothing else has ever been quite like it. Not as much bite but plenty of kick.

A real killer and a guarantee of amnesia and some other very strange happening in the brain is Anisette shots chased with Tequila. If you don't go insane, it is an experience you won't forget...but wish you could. Did it once, which was good for a lifetime. Never have done drugs, but I think that must be close.

I now drink strictly in moderation, and usually wine, occasionally a beer or cider and sometimes, on special occasions, a small whisky. Somewhere in the drinks cabinet is a 20 year old bottle of gold leaf infused sambuca and a "half-jack" of mampoer. (moonshine) I suspect these bottles won't get very much emptier in my lifetime. As for tequila - never again!

Mrs Rupert saw that photo and said it was "disgusting". Of course, I readily agreed....

Did everyone have a big day today? We did not much of anything.....so hot and sooo humid! The 4th used to be hot and bone dry, but the weather here has changed drastically and for the worse.
Big day?

Went to the office, just like normal.

Hot and humid, can give that a miss. Thanks for the warning.

You can be allegedly mature and still like the booze too much, but as Winston Churchill is said to have argued with a disgusted opponent: 'Yes, Madam, I am drunk, but in the morning I shall be sober and you will still be ugly.'

I believe that would be Lady Astor, although in researching my post I have found a variation in the exact wording; Lady Astor: "Mr. Churchill, you're drunk!"
Winston Churchill: "Yes, and you, Madam, are ugly. But tomorrow, I shall be sober."
(I have always heard it the way you quoted it, but who is to know?!)

An even better Churchill/Astor quotation , I believe, is;
"Winston, if you were my husband, I would poison your coffee." "Madam, if I were your husband, I would drink it".
