Split speed limits are stoopit. It is unsafe to limit one class of vehicle to 60, and allow another group to run 70. This is especially bad where there is only 2 or 3 lanes of travel in one direction, and the slower group are monopolizing most or all of them.


The impatient drivers in the faster group are stacked up, chomping at the bit and there frequently will be a multi vehicle pile up.




Then you get the places (Georgia is one) where trucks are restricted to the two right lanes, and some dipstick insists on driving at or just below the limit in the faster of the two truck only lanes. This forces big truck drivers to pass on the right, something that is frowned upon, as it is the blind side.




And sometimes the slow driver will speed up, trying to prevent the pass, as if they have been assigned the task of 'traffic regulation'.

I hate those who thing they are the metronome for the interstate. I did see instant justice one time by one who didn't realize there was a cop in the group they had blocked.

It sucks to get caught behind a group of castrated trucks, all mechanically limited to 60mph. What the drivers of those rigs fail to grasp is that they are not the only ones on the road. When I drove none of the rigs I had were limited, the only limiting factors were the gearing (usually around 100mph or so) and my desire to drive legally and safely.


Still, I wish I had a dollar for every time I was caught behind a cluster of rigs 'racing' at 58 to 60 mph.

At least here, by law, enforced with on road cameras, they are not allowed in the third lane, only in the two at the side. But even so it forces all the other traffic to use only one lane to get through. When it is busy, and some silly guys driving at 100 or more, it creates unnecessary danger.

Here it is illegal to pass on the blind side, ever, except if the other traffic is queued (stationary). But some people do it anyway - usually the kind of people who change lanes all the way left to right and back as single manoeuvres.

That is pretty light, been there in a bumper to bumper 5pm traffic. It was nuts!

More people...more cars...fewer cops patrolling......gets more dangerous every day. I'm not a fast driver...I try to stay right on the speed limit , but that is hard to do nowadays when everyone else is going 10-20 mph faster. I had a box truck pass me yesterday doing 90 mph.....that is pure insanity!

Got a ticket once in 1972-73? It was only a warning...long story...not tonight... 142 in a 55. Down close to the Mexican border. Plymouth Roadrunner...it could really fly!

Last year they raised the speed limit on the Interstate from 75 to 80. This was done, I'm sure, to raise revenue as along with this tha gasoline tax was raised. Higher taxes + more consumption due to faster speed = more money.
In protest I now drive 72ish instead of 75. The interesting thing is that, at 72 in an 80 zone, I pass nearly as many others as pass me.

Don't try that here or we will be missing you in no time. Hostility towards slow drivers is as out of control as is common sense in driving.

Being from Texas and being a native Texan, and everyone here knows this.....I feel a need to say.....
I am not being political, don't want to go there, but I do want to say I am very very sad this morning. It is not political to be very sad, it is just heartbreaking.


Racer...I tried to get a decent shot of the new headliner but it was near impossible in the tiny space with my X20. I will tell you that it looks great, they did a really nice job. Good enough that I am having my old 2000 Dodge Ram done inside...seats and headliner.... in a week or two at the same place. They are not only experts, but the two guys that own the place and do all the work are really good guys. I always like to support really good guys.

Been spending money like crazy lately...trying to get everything in order and all bills eliminated before Mrs Rupert's birthday at the end of July.......when she retires at age 70. Yesterday she told me she was offered another huge bonus to stay until January...and she thinks she will take it. Good lordy, how bad the idea of staying at home with old Rupert every day must be to her? Anyhow, it is her decision.....I am a lot of things, but I am not a controller. Everyone has the right to make their own decisions in their life. I can live with it...and maybe get a few new lenses from her windfall of cash?

Yes, I think Mrs Rupert is afraid of retiring. Yet, she is so busy with her other things in life I have no fear she will not miss her job. Her dedication to teaching the deaf already takes up 20-30 hours of each week, and I see that increasing when she retires. She has had offers from a private school and I hope she will take it at some point to teach sign language and to teach the deaf. She does love the deaf and is very dedicated, it would make her happy I do believe.
If it will help, I'll move out into my shop...I have it really nice out there now...or Otis can make a place for me in the Woods of Otis? I've always wanted to be a squirrel anyhow.....

Empathy....I am cursed with an over abundance of empathy...for animals, for little children, for the disabled and sick, for the downtrodden, for those suffering the loss of loved ones. I can feel the pain, I can suffer, I can cry real tears. These things are not just numbers or objects, they are real beings...like me, like my loved ones. I feel it in that frame of mind..and it hurts very deeply.
I have no answers beyond myself. I can only strengthen myself to avoid hate and anger and realize that my worst enemy has someone that loves them, someone that needs them, someone that cares. I can't change others, but I can be responsible for me.
