But he was wearing his Sunday-best hat that day.

We in Oz had a report a couple of months ago about how bad processed meat was for ones health.
Why would we try and save bacon?

Oh, SAVE it! ...from being eaten.

Do we all realise that young Bert has a better than even chance of out-living us all?
1. 'cause he is younger
2. 'cause he doesn't eat as much processed meat.

Well, there was Frank Spencer. He was kind of extreme.

There's no point being a hundred-and-five and all your friends are long dead. May as well eat, drink and be merry (or be Mary, if that rocks your boat) than live to be as old as Bert!

Yes, he likely will outlive us all, BUT........

Statistically, the mortality rate for those who do not smoke, drink too much, or eat fatty meats is exactly the same as for those who do.

More shocking than that , at least for me, high cholesterol is good for you based on mortality rate. You have more chance of dying from stroke or heart attack, but much less chance of dying from anything else. Over all very high cholesterol is associated with a 6 year longer life. The studies used to justify cholesterol drugs were compile by not looking at the over all mortality rate, and by only studying people who already had heart or stroke problems. It's rapidly becoming apparent, most doctors don't know how to interpret a study. The cholesterol drug companies have been making great profits on product that will actually shorten your life. With fats, all the negative data compiled on eating fats was done on foods that had both high fat and high sugar. Turns out it was the sugar causing the problems not the fat. Another case where what your doctor told you wasn't based on reliable research.

I sure enjoyed my bacon and eggs out in the bush yesterday....a great way to live longer.

My Grandad lived to be just short of 98 years. His Dad lived to be 101 and his Mom died early at 98. Not one of them lived a day of their lives without bacon....or eggs. You want bacon? Show up at my Grandparents home about 5:30 am and you got it! In my Grandad's later years he tried "eating healthy" but said he only lasted a half a day without bacon and eggs.

I have low cholesterol naturally....runs in my family on both sides. So what old Norm says makes sense...and he will probably outlive me.....and since he has me "Ignored"......when I am dead and gone someone please advise him so he can get in the last word!

Eat well, eat happy......

Broccoli with your Chicken Fried Steak is "eating healthy"!

Veggies with your enchiladas do the trick for healthy eating too!

Tomato sauce for you Chicken Fried Bacon offsets any unhealthy part of your meal.

Fish are good for you! So are the biscuits and mac & cheese!

The King! Bacon,eggs,& sourdough toast!

For the brave....

Potted meat.....reading the ingredients burns more calories than are in the can!

What's a bacon sandwich without Velveeta!

What is life without ribs?

Are we getting hungry yet?

Regards!

What healthy is depends on which study they are quoting this week. Truth is, what worked for your grandpa, is probably a better guide for what's good for you than all the modern studies out there.

The impudence of some 30 year old, who's life span is a long way from being determined, telling a 95 plus year old, who's already successfully made the cut, what he should be doing is rather astounding. It should be the other way around. The researchers should be looking at Rupert's gramps, or my grand mother who lived to be 96 and just writing down what they did. Some 30 year old who's read and mis-enterretted a few studies knows squat.

Don't be so sure I'm not checking up on you every now and then. Sometimes I have time for the nonsense, sometimes I don't.

And, I have absolutely no desire to outlive someone who's going to live to be 98. The assisted death law Canada passed brings me great comfort.

When life is no longer any fun... I'm outta here.
