My ode to BACON

My Doc knows that I shouldn't,
He tried, and he couldn't,
BACON's impossible to ban.

Some of you from Europe and Britain will recognize this little gem of a car.

Best Ford Escort MK2 Ken Block - YouTube

Of course my Hoonigan pal Ken Block has massaged it a bit.
Great little cars. My aunt had (an unmodified) one.

This what happens when I turn in at 8:30 pm, 2+ pages to catch up on.
Pent up posting anxiety from PF being at a crawl yesterday?

My body is getting in tune with the time change this Sunday.

Yes... but what I love that is when I am playing near people, I am wearing earplugs and no one else is!
Did you know that the loudness of bagpipes causes players who don't wear earplugs to go deaf at an early age? That's why so many keep playing into their 70's. It also partially explains why the music sounds that way.

Bacon in the sky. Bert has done it.
I played that on my outside speakers. Six squirrels fell out of the trees clutching their ears and screaming....and their screaming sounds were a relief to my own ears.

I wish I was more articulate but i'm going to try anyway

the pipes like good percussion or electric music isn't listened to, it's felt

it's visceral
it stirs your gut (no, Rupert not that way)

don't let your ears get in the way
feel it first
shut off that piece of your brain that tries to put everything in order

imagine listening to a vocalist a but not their words
a good vocalist is just an instrument in the ensemble
you don't need to understand the words of an opera to enjoy it...if it is sung well the words are merely a facet of the totality

I have a fondness for the fiddle (not the violin), the banjo, Dobros and yes the pipes
in their context each are capable of expressing great emotion

you don't hear it...you feel it

when a lone piper plays amazing grace over a grave
whether you knew the dead or not you were probably moved

when hundreds of soldiers charged ahead with one shot and a sharp stick
that wasn't rational
they were moved
moved by the beat of the drums and the skirling of the pipes

translate the process to enjoying good photography
a good picture moves something in the viewer
all the pixel peeping in the world won't reduce the power of a good image
it just reduces the viewer

so, try feeling first

It was close....I shut it down just as they were pulling out their knives for mass suicide. I wasn't far behind them, and was hoping my tiny knife could get the job done. Otis has demanded an investigation on how/why? man ever created such a horrific instrument of ear canal destruction? It is a valid question.

It is dangerous around here. This morning a squirrel was risking his life checking the sap flow on the Pecan Tree. Seems safe enough? But...last week Chucky Squirrel was checking it when a huge load of sap shot out and blew his damn head off!

They had a big military style funeral for him, and burial in the Honors Field, but saved his head because it was full of sap.

Regards!

Very good points ccc, something I hadn't given much thought, but "imagine listening to a vocalist a but not their words" reminded me of some songs I've liked before paying attention to the words.

American Pie comes to mind, loved that song when it came out, played it anytime I was near a jukebox.
After many plays I started listening to what McLean actually saying, and I was like What the hell is he talking about?
Same with a lot of Van Morrison's early stuff.

You tried...but how successful were you? Well, I went outside and read your post to the squirrels. Came in and replayed that Bacon Bagpipe tune wide open so they could get the "feel" of it.
Got a damn yard full of beer bottles, beer cans, two broken windows and a deck covered in squirrel puke. Thanks a lot!

Never had a problem with Morrison or McLean...You just have to be a deep philosophical thinker like old Rupert to "get it"!

My fav.......Yep,she's alright with me! She's an angel....how the hell else could she live with me 50+ years!

Regards!

I reckon I just got headbutted

frankly, I had very low expectations of swaying your opinion
but I am really disappointed by the squirrels' reaction

I just had a dozen of our rodents tapping their patties to a youtube extravaganza

they've caught a couple of koi from pond and are making pipes from discarded swizzle sticks and swim bladders
in a week or so I should be able to jam with them

there is a downside however...
I can't the dogs out for fear they'll be skinned to make those tall black hats the pipers were wearing

Hi Robert. I have been watching and chuckling for months and months, but never felt quite confident enough to jump in. The longer I waited, the harder to jump. Then I realized that I am just " silly " as the rest of you on this thread. I won't necessarily post often, but I will always be watching.
Silly? Us? On this thread??

You really shouldn't judge us all based on that first post.
