Oh, and I feel a rant coming on.

I stumbled on a discussion elsewhere here that had a mention of the Echo thing that Amazon is pimping in the name of home automation. It intrigued me so I did a quick web search.

Not a lot of stuff popped up, but this 'smart outlet' caught my eye.

Practical timing function, no good memory needed, easy managing household electricity. For example, you can switch off your desk lamp without having to walk close to it when in bed.
Chinglish.

What a language.

Nuff said.

(The fine print: OK, so ya wanna buy the Echo thing, and spend money on a whole bunch of other stuff, so you don't have to go walking around in bed and all, and that is OK. If it makes you happy, go for it. I can't fault you for that. It's your money. Enjoy it any way you want. But please, please, please, be careful while walking around in bed. And remember, no good memory needed. Ever.)

Here's another one.

Um, I'm thinking it ain't such a great idea to cook breakfast in your bed. Well, at least for me, as I have a waterbed. Waterbeds and toasters don't mix.

Also, that stuff on the nightstand looks a little weird. An odd stuffed animal with a lamp sticking out of his neck?

Get a load of that water heater. Looks more like a commercial air freshener or an iTunes speaker dock. My hot water heaters (yes, there are two, one electrically connected, the other receives the preheated hot water from the geothermal heating and cooling unit sitting a few feet away) are in the basement, where they belong.

And who leaves their router out on the bookcase? I'm lazy and don't like to dust anything that I don't need to, so my router is in the basement, next to the ADSL modem, part of the structured media panel I put in when I built my house. Right next to the entrance package and the beaker panels (I have two on a 400 amp service). Haven't dusted it since I built the house 9 years ago.

are radials always odd numbered?

I read somewhere that radials were mounted horizontally as power plants for armored vehicles

Usually yes, where you see an even number of cylinders on a radial engine it is made up of two (or more) banks of cylinders with an odd number of cylinders per bank.

Some US tanks in WWII did indeed use radial aircraft engines as the power source and they were mounted horizontally under the rear deck.

There's quite a tradition of tank manufacturers looking to aircraft powerplants instead of trucks or tractors.

Even today the M1 Abrams uses the kind of gas turbine you'd put in a helicopter.

One could cook Bacon or sear steaks on top of the exhaust shroud! That is if you don't mind taste of kerosene

a spritz of wd-40 or some silicone- or Teflon-based lube would have worked
I helped drill the weights for a cabinet clock that used lead ingots and that was the solution
works on brass and aluminum which aren't malleable but "sticky" as well

the second time I used brass tubing
heated it
drove it through the two inches of lead...lickety-split
when the tube cooled it was soldered in
cut off the excess tubing
peened over the ends

had much more abrasion resistant pivot for a shackle to fit in

after all of that, a neighbor suggested using the old crappy stamped sheet metal style of pilot+countersink bits
he was correct...with no flutes...no clogs
I have a set of those some where!

I think I need counseling! Just spent a lot of time with my PC... 960 EVO m.2, 850 EVO SSD, some 4TB my-book thing from Best Buy and while there I had to force myself to put down that e-VGA GTX 1080.
Hence, I have been neglecting a pound of Bacon in the fridge that needs to be cooked.

This is the only thread I feel comfortable posting this in, so here goes:
Please, if you are inclined, pray for one of our members.
He's one of the best people I've ever had the privilege to know, and he needs our support.

Maybe it was the loaded pickles that I sent you that made you light headed?

I know you guys are all with me, and have been, and my appreciation is beyond my capability for words.

You know what they say..."Life is a beach and then you die".......or something like that? Hey guys, they are not kidding us! For however long I can continue to function in a reasonable manner, I will be here to take advantage of the vast wealth of knowledge this thread has to offer.......rotary engines in a tank...where the hell else are you going to learn stuff like that!

No use in getting all grim faced and negative....I am not facing anything billions of others have not already faced...and what everyone else here will surely face too. Life is full of reality...some of it we would rather deny, but in the end that is not possible.

Best Regards!
