Kerosene, as well as jet fuel, are just more highly refined diesel.
Well, the kero gets better performance,, but our army with its smaller budget and infrastructure decided to use one fuel across its branches instead of two.

Another close call was a duck hunt that could have easily taken not only my life, but also the lives of my brother and nephew. I'll post that story one of these days.
Was alcohol involved, Bob? If so, there are parallels with duck hunts here in Oz.

Was the incident preceded by someone saying "Here, hold my beer. Now watch this!"?

Nope, but that's not to say brother and I didn't drink a couple earlier on.
It's weather related, hunting on the Mississippi River in late November, and having a 14' semi-v boat for transportation.

oh the horror
the screaming and lamentations of Brussel sprouts being cut from their stalk
nobody really likes those darn sprouts
perhaps in their next life they'll come back as a vegan

oops...may be I went too far

Brussel sprouts are very popular here. They have many in all the supermarkets. And they are part of the traditional Christmas dinner.

Just remember our friends from other places are not as smart as us from Oz.

Yes. Smart. That was the word I was looking for.

(And yes, I'm often called smart - or a smart odd-toed ungulate of some sort - even though I'm not from Oz.)

then by all means substitute a vegetable you enjoy disparaging

as I've mentioned before, we ate whatever our parents put on the table...it was hungry out...sprouts were actually a treat...mini-cabbages

when my mom died I quit going to family Christmases...a traditional dinner consisted of bitching, bickering and bile
now for the winter holidays the kids let us know when, we decide on where and what menu...so far, my favorite Christmas dinner is a Cajun crab boil
we have no tradition other than everyone must be nice

after fifty years of aggravation the last fifteen have been bliss

Read my lips, It was just the Weather!
I planned a long Rupert story about the hunt, maybe I'll post a condensed version to nip speculation in the bud.

Just like around my house, if I don't tell the story myself, Tess' imagination induced version is way worse than anything I could have dreamed up... and I'm twice as stupid as I really was in her version.

Women have that knack.
My wife, of 33 years this Friday, and I don't argue often, but the thing I cannot tolerate is:
"I know you said blah blah blah, but what you really meant was blah blah blah."
Thankfully that's a rarity.
