The tourism and education.
Only thing lacking is a hospital.
And shopping.
They just opened the new Westgate Shopping Centre - a grand mall type place with a variety of middle and upper market brands. That is about 5 minutes walk away, twice as far as the Christ Church College, which also includes the seat of the Diocese of Oxford, Christ Church Cathedral. That is the church where Alice in Wonderland's father was the Bishop.
Hospitals are a bit further away, but near enough that there are hoons driving through Speedwell St in vans with flashing blue lights, trying to dodge the buses that accumulate there and in St Aldates. That route is one of the major routes for buses to get through Oxford from west to east. Car traffic is banned from parts of that route and so needs to take a 2 mile detour, going further south from the court and police station, over Folly Bridge. There are major hospitals on each side of the A420, London Road in the east of Oxford, about 1-2 miles from the area we are talking about. Both are teaching hospitals of the university and are differentiated by different specialisations. The one to the north is the JR and the one to the south is the Churchill. A little bit further out of town than the police station, along the St Aldates road, after the Folly Bridge, is the running track where Bannister beat the 4 minute mile for the first time for anyone to achieve that feat.
And the Thames has a different name in Oxford, the same as an ancient Egyptian god, and the name gets people in trouble if they live in streets named after it if they order goods from the famous online shops based in US because the clerks in those big online shops are not smart enough to realise that Oxford, UK is not in Syria. The same issue also caused difficulty for the Oxford University commercialisation company because it was named the same as the local name of said river.
