Thanks for the update Mark.
I guess it's about as good of news as we can expect at this time.

I have just got off the phone with Gail, Jim (Rupert)'s wife. Gail has asked that I share with you that Jim is in the hospital. With luck, he'll be discharged tomorrow and Gail will take him home.
I'd like to ask all of you to keep Jim and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
That's better news than I'd feared. Thanks for the update, Mark, and very best wishes to Jim & Gail.

Thanks for the update, Mark. Jim and Gail should be pretty well covered for thoughts and prayers 24x7 with forum friends across several continents.

I'll confess, I checked the Granbury, TX obituaries earlier yesterday.
Hopefully he makes it home today and regains some vigor.
Maybe Velveeta topped ramen noodles would help.

Just got a text from youngest son, their first child is going to be a boy, due in April.
That'll bring our grandchildren count to 4 boys, and 2 girls.
Great grandchild, also a boy, is due the same month.

Wow! Congratulations!

I'm left in the dust with only two grandchildren - the boy who arrived in dramatic fashion in February being the second

Used to be the gender of an expected child was only a guess. Often the baby’s behavior in the womb would supposedly be an indicator.

But that was just old wives tales.

Also used to be that parents used cotton diapers. Rinse them out in the commode, launder, reuse.

Now they use disposable diapers. So lazy.

And at a significant cost too. A woman checking out ahead of me in the store was getting a box.

$34.

I about choked.

The same amount of cotton diapers is about $10, and for pennies they can be reused over and over.

I don’t get it.

Walk a mile in the shoes of a working mom with a baby, or a working dad "watching" the baby, and get back with me on that.

The reason is that cotton diapers need changing every time the baby piddles. And, often, that which needs containing in the diaper does not stay contained.
A store bought diaper wicks the wee away from the baby's skin, keeping the skin dry and you really only need to change it for number two's, so you do not use very many diapers per day.

Yep, put them right up there with digital cameras and sliced Velveeta for some of man's greatest inventions.

we used disposables and never begrudged a penny spent

I came from a family of seven kids
until I was twelve or so there were stinking diapers headed to the laundry

when we had our first there was no debate
