Oh. The Scourge of the North

I was born over there, in Adelaide, where the test that matters the most happened last week.

I have been here a bit over two years now.

Tried to go driving this morning. Brushed the snow off the car, except the side where I could not get it off. Drove around the front of the house, picked up my wife and brushed off the rest of the car. Then tried to start going again, and got stuck on ice at the first tee junction out of our street. Eventually got out of that with a neighbour pushing me a bit. About 1/4 mile away had to stop at a tee junction, inclined slightly upwards and could not get going again, ice. Got pushed out of there and got back home, where got stuck again where I reverse into my driveway. Took half an hour to dig away the snow and ice so I could reverse those two car lengths and put my car beside the wall where it belongs. Later walked into town - curious sight that. All overwhelmed by snow and slush, about 3 inches deep.

The trees out my study window now look like the have cotton balls in their upper branches.
With weather like that you might as well move over here!

Maybe time to get hold of some snow tyres? Or chains? Would make your life a lot easier on those days.

Your comment about 100% guarantee. Do you remember a certain supplier of plastic kitchen goods that offered a 'lifetime guarantee', and only sold through 'parties'?

My wife was most frustrated when there were some products she bought and the representative thought up all kinds of excuses, like, you used the microwave pot in the microwave as an excuse for not giving a replacement. Now she only buys the much cheaper supermarket products and does not feel ripped off when they fail.
Tupperware? Their reps here have been very good and have replaced every item that has failed in some way. Even 30 year old lids! Although I can report that Tupperware does not work well for cleaning motorcycle engine parts. OK with degreaser, not so happy with petrol. Go figure.

Tupperware in the shop?

I use aluminum pie, cake and loaf pans. Been picking them up at yard sales for years, never pay more than a quarter or two.

Impervious to any chemicals that may be encountered in the shop, and very durable.

Easy cleanup too.

It would sound a bit less condescending if you used their proper name, Canon.

M and I tried poutine when traveling in Canada, and we know it is only prepared for and eaten by naive tourists.

BTW: Did I miss something, or have there still been no posts by Rupert/Jim? I keep checking for one.

My neighbour told me the last time there was one of those days was 2012. That is why they are so unprepared for it here.

Got to work today. Saw one car in a ditch and one street in Bampton was closed for a fallen telephone line, so I had to take the back lane past the church used in Downton Abbey.

If you knew enough about plastics that would tell us which plastic it is, and then deduce why it is different than the other brands.

Do the freezer and non-freezer Tupperware behave the same way with petrol and degreaser?

You have not missed anything I saw.

So if you missed it, so did I.

I have a long held opinion that practical joking should be a capital offense

an old workmate discovered that a microwave's shielding would block radio signals

hence a relentless purloining pf pagers and cellphones
he would place them in a microwave
the user would realize their device was missing and call it to locate it
blocked signal...haha

until the morning someone shoved their popcorn in without looking
started up the machine
it wasn't as dramatic as the movies and fortunately no one was hurt
however the explosion was dramatic and odoriferous

No, no posts from Rupert, but Parallax had a talk with him on the phone a few days ago (why I won't buy a k3 (Warning: Satire Thread) - Page 2827 - PentaxForums.com)

You shouldn't try with a K-5 either...
