Our un-official state bird is the Mosquito... big enough to latch on to babies and carry them away! I have seen some big as tip of my thumb!

We have mosquitoes here that can stand flat footed and make love to turkeys.

While out on either Chincoteague or Assateague I was bitten by what is locally called a "tiger mosquito." Left a irritated welt that persisted four or five months. NASTY little bug.

They are bigger than that here, inch and a half across. And the ones between Stawell and Horsham on the Western Highway, out of Melbourne, are even bigger. They really mess the windscreen on impact, especially given there are crowds of them.

Mosquitos are preferable in parts of the US

to the little black flies that go for your ankles

they prefer any insecticide made as " seasoning "

Minnesota has a lot of those as well

We get a lot of those ankle biters here in Southern Canada too. We know them as stable flies and they give quite a bite that itches for a while afterwards.

ccc,
I've tried to figure out your state, thought KS, now thinking OK, or NE?
You know, I bet since you didn't quote him, he may have missed this Bob.

Or he is ignoring your inquiry.

Mosquitoes? I'll tell you about mosquitoes.
I was stationed at Eielson AFB, AK (Fairbanks) for 4 years.
Once, a mosquito landed on the runway. POL tried to refuel it.
