Yes, the digital broadcasting does offer better signal, and many more channels that the old analog over the air broadcasting.

But.

The signal falls off to nothing at around 50 miles from the broadcast towers.

Also.

It is line of sight, meaning buildings, mountains, dense stands of forest all block the signal.

My home is along a river, surrounded by hills. It is also about 65 to 70 miles from the broadcast towers. So the analog signals we used to get that brought in the 3 network channels, PBS, and a couple Canadian channels from our neighbours to the North are all gone. The local cable provider, Comcast ran fiber optic cable in the area a few years ago, but that ends about a mile from the house. The local phone carrier, Frontier has FIOS, but that ends the same place as the cable.

So our only option is satellite TV.

*sigh*

The penalties one pays to live in the country.

That is the problem of all things digital. If the signal gets corrupted on the way the whole lot is lost, not just a bit a degradation of quality.

It has cars that carry motor vehicles.

A bridge where the drivers can hang out in a lounge while they travel between France and Britain.

They could start their imbibing of the drinks each is famous for before they get there, or knock off what they have left on return.

I think some of the big sports that are no longer available on free to air think they made a good deal by making their product subscription only but the effect is that only people who are already enthusiasts will find them, and eventually they will get old and ..., or get busy and not be able to continue, or ... . But no-one channel surfing will ever come across them and get interested. Does that eventually spell the end of the revenue stream for the big sports mobs?

An international twist to this morning's Elvis sandwich.
Butter browned Bosnian bread, and butter browned banana.
with bacon of course.

Today is Saturday. It rained today. We went to the shops to buy stuff, like food, with which to stuff ourselves. A rather dreich day today. I talked to Kerrowdown about the wonders of communication enabled by that word.

Taking Mrs. Racer and one of her sisters to the airport this morning, they are going to New Orleans, then driving to Pensacola to visit Mrs. Racer’s daughter, son in law and grandson, then they will drive to the Keys for a week or so before returning to New Orleans to fly home.

All on American made planes.

Thanks!

Already got a bunch of buddies coming over later, and have a few hookers lined up.

Fishermen are, for the most part, fun guys to be around once you get past their lying.

We're three generations on a family trip to my brother-in-law's mountain cabin. Lots of snow - but good company

They're preparing lamb roast on risotto for tonight's dinner. Starting to smell really nice. Not going to lose any weight this weekend either
