A waste of good food.

I thought that one would only throw the ones that had little splits and mould growing.

Thus far the 787 with composite wings is the only airliner that does that. I saw a video of the first flight, and as the pilot was maneuvering through various turns the wings appeared to “flap” much like a bird. They flex quite a bit more that metal wings.

Amazing how flexible aircraft are, even the all metal ones.

The ability to flex makes them able to withstand more rough weather and turbulence than making them rigid, like the pre 1950s ones.

I'm disappointed. I was hoping they could be flapped like birds' wings during flight

Sounds reasonable. <Insert fitting Chinese saying here> It would be interesting to be aboard in a bit of rough weather just to have a look at the wings "in action". Not sure it's a sight suited to calm the nerves of those less enthusiastic about flying, though.

How in the heck did you dig that up? Unless, you have the advantage of having read all the posts starting from page 1...

So you're saying you haven't read them all?

I have read every one from day one.
Well, almost.
Might have missed couple due to being occupied with the Weber.

Just trying to politely imply that our wind instrument player might have a lot to catch up to do.
Maybe not all his fault due to our mods limiting the number of "tags" allowed. They should be unlimited on this thread IMO!

That should be reason enough to get a pass.

Especially if you were using it to cure some bacon.

I went for a ride in a 747 once, about 30 years ago (long before I worked in the Big Shed) from Seattle to Minneapolis. My seat was in the last row, at the very back, on the aisle.

I looked forward several times during the flight. I could see all the way to the front of the plane.

What I saw would scare anyone who doesn't have a good understanding of how large aircraft are designed and expected to operate.

The floor undulated, twisted and buckled.

A lot.

Just like it was designed to do.

Probably not to Wangaratta; they would have to truck it in and then truck it out!
This is the size that is more common here; (plus an odd corporate commuter).
Those aren't airports, they are airstrips.

Far too small to accommodate a commercial airliner.

The pavement alone would buckle under the weight.

And of course the length of the strip would be too short to safely land one of those big birds.

Much like these two:

Orcas Island

Friday Harbor

My one and only ride on a 747 was around that time too, nonstop flight from St Louis to Honolulu, none of this hub hopping crap.
Window seat by the left wing, couldn't see the floor doing the shimmy shimmy shake, just the wing and engines.
