Only thing was, because of the compact nature of the car, some routine maintenance jobs could be a bit of a pain. No more so than with modern vehicles though!
Yes, they're not really the same thing at all...

An old mini is something I'd like to have, along with a series landrover.
Or perhaps a mini on a landrover?

Those old LR`s were tough as nails!
Would love to have one. Unless they used Lucas electrics...
edit: and a Ford Lotus Cortina...
edit:: Ford Escort Mk2 would do in a pinch!

Interesting.
I'm the same height as you and my thoughts were that I would have to sit in the back seat to drive one.
Size looks can be deceiving, that's what I've always said anyhow.

The Lucas motto: "Get home before dark."

If I am correct, both the LR and mini used Lucas electrics.

Here's a 53 year old Mini to initiate conversation, they do catch fire occasionally, so bring a fire extinguisher.

Joe Huffaker has been winning in SCCA amateur road racing for over 50 years in minis.

The car with body removed.

Some of his competitors.

Quite good use of space:

But for better space, they really should have made it a hatchback with folding rear seats:

Guess you had the Mini Traveller for more cargo space over the plain mini...

The old series Landrovers had one major fault: Very weak half shafts. Other than that, they were virtually unbreakable. Except for the Lucas (Price of Darkness) components.

Why do the British drink warm beer?

Because Lucas made their refrigerators!

And if the electrical components were dead, you could still get to where you need to go, you just need to pull out the hand crank...

Because they, as well as the Germans, know how to brew and drink good beer.

Oh, and Minis are cool and all, but I prefer Datsuns.
