I remember, on several occasions, gals with the visor mirror down applying makeup, others reading newspapers etc on their steering wheel.
[ warning, I'm back ]

problem with defining " distracting driving "

what is it exactly?

dropped item

talking to passenger by looking at them not the road

listening to and or messing with radio/nav system/other gadgets

etc, etc, etc, and so forth and so on

One day on the South Eastern Freeway here a guy was spotted spooning cereal and milk out of a bowl of some kind.

My mom could say it backwards faster than I can say it forwards.

They mostly aren't, but they have to deal with a lot of them.
If you can set it up, do a ride along sometime.

That might have come across little too negative.
Our Sheriffs department and the DOD cops work their asses off to keep us straight.
State troopers are out to "get us" so no love.

From a truck driver's perspective I found it to be a case that varied state by state. Some state troopers, Ohio, California, Maine are bent on asserting themselves and ruining a driver's day.

Other states, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico want to ensure truckers get the benefit of the doubt where idiot 4 wheelers are concerned.

After all, truck drivers and cops are at work while on the road.

4 wheelers are almost always on a pleasure trip.

And when they go out of their way to cause trouble for a trucker they need to get a huge ticket. I witnessed it many times.

Idiots one and all.

While at the wheel of a 2 ton vehicle every driver has an undeniable obligation to be 100% focused on driving.

It should be a capital offense to drive while distracted.

This guy's motor was an English standard size, more like 1 ton, but still, your point remains equally valid.

Did anyone notice how the 1950 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV was hurrying along to the church as the bride was a bit late? Not often you see a stately car like that hurrying!
What have they done to the headlights? It looks very odd.

Here's one I helped pay for. It's an early naughties Saab 9-3, except it has a carbon fibre body built around a tubular frame. It's also just a tad lower and wider than the standard Saab body. And there's a 6 litre Chev racing engine under the yellow and green striped blanket. But it does have Saab badges

It was being rebuilt after this

I helped pay for that one too.

Ugh!

Nissan Skylines and Subaru WRXes had such a great reputation they were the favoured vehicles of 19 year old tearaways in Melbourne. You'd turn on the news and see these rather than a 120Y wrapped around a lamp post.
I'm not sure about the Skylines. Maybe there weren't as many crashes as the WRXs. But I seem to remember that the WRXs came off much worse than a 120Y would have done. Really high speeds or maybe very thin metal.

I had one of those today. We were in a 40kmh zone in Victoria Parade by the marina. It's where the dolphin and whale watch cruise boats are based. There were 13 full-sized coaches emptying 1,100 overseas visitors who were getting lined up to board the boats. (We've got 6,600 Chinese incentive competition winners visiting over 6 days.) The very light traffic was moving freely, but slowly. A BMW driver coming towards me, head down, veered onto my side of the road where there's a slight curve. I tootled him politely and he moved back into his lane. His head did not come up. As I passed him, I could see that he was totally concentrated on something in his lap.

It's more dangerous these days driving at slow speeds than it was 50 years ago driving at 200 kmh and over on cross-ply tyres.

Not sure. They do look a bit strange - could just be the reflection though. At least they're mounted in the correct location. I would have thought the headlights would have been original - this being a very special motorcar. One of only 18 built.

Nasty crash!

So, other than the badges, there's not much Saab there?
