Well, I grew up in a a town called Chili, New York. It is pronounced with long "i"s. CHY-ly. Nobody is exactly sure how the town got it's name. A few different theories floating around.

The irony is he supposedly loved her.

All you guys posting links to Google maps of places you lived when young made me wish to do the same.

But.

My dad was a lifer in the US Navy. We moved on an average of once every 18 months. Several of the places we lived don’t even exist anymore.

Even if they did, it would take two pages of posts to link them all.

I grew so weary of moving, that as an adult I have move only a few times.

Having lived in one place for so long, the last time I moved it took a couple months.

Lived the first 17 years of my life in the same house....I can't even imagine a childhood spent moving from place to place. Any then I bought a house after 7 years of apartment living and lived in it for another 27 years with only a short 3 years, in the middle, living in Europe.

We'll be in our house 26 years next month, the longest I've lived in one dwelling.
With a full basement we have so much "stuff" it would take a month or more to pack it all up.
I'm ready to purge, Mrs Bob is not.

edit, she has no problem with me purging my stuff.

Exactly, in the end, one wants self preservation.

That's for sure.

How strongly (more or less than other feelings) depends on the individual person.
I don't think everyone would have reacted like that, but then again, 1984 is pretty pessimistic on the nature of man...

Nothing a few days in the Ministry of Love won’t cure.

Care for some Victory gin?

That's a "town car" Bert. You need the unimog as well! Or a Series 1 Landrover. I'm not fussy!

unfortunately

a collection is only truly valuable when you have a buyer eager to pay $ for some or all of it

otherwise, it is just stuff you enjoy

Since home turf is being posted....this is the place where I skinned knees, climbed trees, and rebuilt my first car engine. Pierrefonds, a suburb of Montreal...no party line but our cottage had one.

Google Maps Street View
I've been to your city, but not your suburb. Lovely city. Found a neat little antique staple-less "stapler" in a junk shop there too. It joins the sheets with a clever cut and fold operation.

Very cunning gadget.
