I have owned a replica Civil War musket for over 40 years. If you put a double load of powder in it and let her rip it makes a lot of noise. Much more impressive than a cherry bomb or an M80. Not legal to discharge in my neighborhood so it is stays in on the Fourth of July.
I can imagine, had a .75 caliber replica Brown Bess musket which I used in Revolutionary War re enactments

full load, quite a jolt, noise and smoke

Duh! That's because you don't exist.

I've never had much interest in firing fireworks anyway, just in shooting them (with a camera).

The quote to which you allude named a different substance.
Because there is not one referring to jet fuel.

And yes, I know the difference. Napalm is gasoline (petrol) based. Definitely smells different.

That's a noble endeavor
But, you know, when I was young there were those kids who liked every kind of pyrotechnic device... I was not one of those

Shooting is interesting... I find that I'm quite creative when shooting firework (and that doesn't happen often with other subjects).

After nearly 24 hours, a shave, shower and a change of clothes, I still smell like jet fuel.

Some strong stuff.

By the way, jet fuel is merely more highly refined diesel, or kerosene.

And the gov probably has some secret additives as well.

...even nobler then!

I had a nice gelato with fresh ribes from my garden... it's either-or for me (ice cream or beer), don't like to mix those tastes.

for a number of years, I spent the 4th of July helping to fire off the big mortars - 14 ", 16 " and 18" shells,

tubes buried in the ground, you drop the shells into the tubes and

lit the fuses by hand, not by wire

kinda lost the interest in firing off " normal " fireworks after that
My dad was a gun captain of one of the 16" guns on a battleship in WWII. We always had to badger him to take us to fireworks displays. He would usually sleep in the car. We once asked him why he did that. He said that if you have ever seen a nighttime air attack on a fleet of over 200 naval vessels, a fireworks display is just not worth the effort to see.

I recently came across this video on YouTube. It is the USS Washington (the ship my father served on) firing at aircraft. The big flashes are the 5" guns and the tracers are 20 and 40mm antiaircraft guns. The tracers are only every 4th of 5th round too. Skip to the 4 minute mark.

The US Navy photographed just about everything in WWII. A lot of it in color too. Moderators, If this is not appropriate please delete the video.

Had an up close encounter with a timber rattler, in the woods, back in my surveying days.
Coiled and ready to strike, until the shovel in my hands ended the threat.
It had recently swallowed a grey squirrel.
That's his hide on the back of my bar, can't remember how many rattles, too lazy to go downstairs to count them, but there are several.

Hey, I see an outboard motor and a trolling motor there.

Don't you have a garage for that stuff?

Or are they man cave art?

Air Attack On T.F. 58: Jap Planes Shot Down; USS Washington (BB-56) Fires AA Guns, 06/13/1944 (full) - YouTube
My dad shot 8mm film of war games when he was in the Atlantic in the Navy. Guns blasting, tracers flying.

But no sound.

*sigh*

I used to go home smelling like JP-5 exhaust. Now I have an office with a name-tag next to the door...
It makes for a great storage closet
