Our Moka pot thingy was pretty cheap, it was either $3 or $5 at the thrift store. It makes great coffee...

in Tanzania we had elephants very close to the vehicle

the pop up top was opened and locked and I was standing up taking photos

I asked John ( our guide ) what would happen if the elephant put its trunk into the vehicle

no response

I imagine it would not be good
Our (not too good) driver many years ago got us between mother and calf when driving through a herd. The whole herd got rather agitated, you know, ear flapping and trumpeting and the lot. Oh and one chap blocking the tracks. I wondered at the time - would they use their tusks as tin openers or simply sit on the vehicle... Probably the latter since it was an open vehicle

Only much later did I learn that there is no real danger as long as the noise and flapping goes on - that's just a warning. It's when they go silent and lay their ears flat that you are in trouble.

For the carbon-based units that are upset about this statement, it was a PRIVATE discussion that I was having with myself.

You are taking it out of context and drawing erroneous confusions.

Besides, you shouldn't be looking over my shoulder during a PRIVATE discussion.

(Should get a few more posts for the LUCKY ONE)

That was my only coffee maker for a couple of years, best joe I've made at home, and I used to burr grind fresh for a Bunn maker.
Still have it, need to use it again.

Open ears bluff, folded flat back not bluff. More aerodynamic means more force to squash you flat.

that is when John decided it was time to " get out of Dodge "

no conversation other than " hold on "

didn't ask if we were done or if we wanted to go

that is why I choose to have a knowledgeable guide as oppose to hiring a vehicle and driving myself

Yep, pretty common among animals, that. Protects the ears, too. Elephants ears tend to get rather worn over the years.

my choice:

Hario Ceramic Coffee Mill "Mini-Slim"

I'm the only one who drinks coffee so the issue of being " fast
' doesn't exist

and some times " fast " does not equal good

I don't mind doing the driving myself now. (If an elephant gets me on my next trip you'll know why...)

Going without a ranger on foot is quite out of the question, though.

True, even though it tends to happen less often the better the guide is.

A nephew teased me that it looks like a pen!s pump.
I asked him how he would know what one looks like.
He said Austin Powers had one.
