Our puppers (pair o' Golden Retrievers) will eat darn near anything. They LOVE melons of all sorts.
I guess a cool chunk of melon would feel good in the summertime to a dog. You are the one that has to pick up the droppings if they eat too much so, have fun with that!

Strange you would say something like that.

Gotta do that regardless... They love fruit, berries, veggies, all sorts of things. Blackberry season (starting soon) they'll inhale as many I'm willing to give 'em. Watermelon, canteloupe, bananas, citrus (including lemons), anything just about. Dogs have as much of a sweet tooth as humans, so they really like things that are sweet and crunchy.

I make treats for our yellow lab.
1 quart plain no fat yogurt
1 or 2 bananas
2 TBS peanut butter
2 TBS honey
blend, mix, whatever, pour into small cups and freeze.

but no umbrellas ??

I always worry about going to out of town events which are not " protected " for weather

rain out MLB ball games for example

rain checks just mean ADDITIONAL expense for travel, food and possible hotel expenses, better to cut your losses in a lot of cases

Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta (until you hit the Rockies)

That said, all these places have hidden gems that are worthwhile making a detour for if you know where to look and have the time to do it.

We lucked out last year and camped here....an oasis in the prairies

Escape to the Cypress Hills
The prairie also has coulees. Always interesting places to explore.

So if you were to suggest one place in Kansas that should not be missed while driving through; what would it be?
The Flint Hills.

firm believer in Murphy's Law

any thing that can go wrong will go wrong

and Finnigan's corollary to it

Murphy was an optimist

so I plan to adapt as necessary

comes from being a " pre 69 cub fan "

there is a glass of beer but not a full glass

the optimist sees it as half full

the pessimist sees it as half empty

the Cub fan looks at it and wonders

when will it get knocked over

cattle weren't slaughtered in the Kansas Cow towns

shipped via rail to Chicago for that

that is why, as the rail road kept expanding, cow towns lived and died
