Being from Australia, you know the value of having a good stick.

And when to use it, of course.

Be it on one of those snakes that are everywhere down there, or when hitting a baseball. Of course they hit the ball before they run in circles and get dizzy.

In fact, I think the reason you see the runner slide so much is because he got dizzy and felt it looked easier than running all the way.

Although. Mrs. Racer has been pestering me to sell this place, and move South, somewhere in the wasteland between Portland and Seattle where the property values, and property taxes, are much lower. She thinks we can sell this place for enough to pay off the remainder of the mortgage, buy a comparable place down there (although a view property not riverfront - views of the Columbia River valley) for cash, and have money left over.

Oh, and we wouldn't have a $4,000 a month mortgage payment anymore either.

So I dunno, I may be retiring sooner than I thought.

I forget the precise numbers and penalties.

Speeding fines get progressively higher as the amount over the posted limit increases. At some point it becomes reckless or negligent driving, and the fines are significant, and there is usually an immediate arrest, and the driver’s car is impounded.

Get too many tickets and the driving privilege is suspended for 6 months or more.

They have been getting harder on drinking drivers too, with progressively higher penalties and suspensions. Anymore a driver convicted of DUI will be required to have a blow and go device installed on their car, at their expense, and the length of time it is required to be in the car is longer for each successive offense.

Commercial vehicle licensed drivers are held to a higher standard. A lower blood alcohol limit, and too many moving violations can result in loss of driving privileges sooner than non commercial license holders.

Also, commercial license holders are held to the higher standard even while operating their private vehicle.

One more thing, if a CDL holder is involved in an accident that is the fault of another driver, and someone is killed, and the CDL holder has a detectable amount of alcohol or drugs in their system, they automatically become at fault, even in a non commercial vehicle.

I find it interesting to note that Canada draws a much harder line with drinking drivers than the US does.

As least with regard to US drivers (or even passengers) who attempt to cross the US/Canada border if they have ever had a DUI.

Anyway, if a driver, or a passenger in a motor vehicle crossing the US/Canada border has ever had a DUI, they will be refused entry into the country.

I don't know what they do with their own drivers who can't exercise good judgment while enjoying that good Canadian beer, eh? Maybe they kick them out too?
