Ah, yes, I can see (and hear) that. The caricature French accent from countless British films and TV shows is actually based on reality. Weird.

There's a delicious scene in the 1970 film "There's a Girl in My Soup" when Peter Sellers' character, the rotten seducer, is carrying Goldie Hawn's very drunk 19 year old character up to his French Riviera hotel room for, one presumes, a bit of hanky panky. A French hotel employee with romance in his soul, believing that they are newlyweds, gives them his best wishes with "I hope you have happiness all your life". Of course, being French, he drops all the "aitches".

Oh, a Frenchman speaking English, I mean. Sorry that I'm not expressing myself clearly. You know, English is not my language - I'm only borrowing it
But. I learned from the movies that thare's no such thing as as a French language. They all speak English with a French accent. N'est-ce pas?

Congrats to your friend. That must have been a thrill.

Memsahib 1.0's late father was at one time Provost Marshall for Scotland an Northern Ireland. It was a Lt Col appointment with an office in the castle. We got tickets There were bagpipers from all over the world and many of them had put some of their ethnic influence on the tunes they played and the way they played the instrument. That's where I came to love bagpipe music.

I remember this song. Ha! I attended an investiture at Buckingham Palace in 1961, I think. My father was getting a gong and my mother and I were guests. We were all seated in the room and the military band was in the minstrels' gallery playing soothing music. Then the Beefeaters (Yeomen Warders - Wikipedia) marched in to take up their ceremonial guard posts. And the band played High Ho, High Ho, it's off to work we go. An amused titter ran around the room.

I meant to say long ago, but did not, so now: when you all started talking about carping it struck me that it may have just been a dyslexic typer.

I was feeling offended but 'ave now gotten over it.
