Can't find the post with ( I assume) an "original" vehicular Mini - had one of the very earliest 1959 Mini Minors ("Reg No": RBW 397) with a chassis number of just under 30,000, and the "thin" shell and so it was lighter than the later ones. OTOH, knocked a hole in the floor when out rallying, and finally "retired" it in favour of a slightly later "Traveller" (= "estate"/"station wagon" - but still "small"!). Put a "big engine" (balanced and tuned 1100cc) in first one and then the other - great fun and very quick (for it's day!), and surprised a few people over time, including, in France, a guy in an MG B who asked "what the hell is under the bonnet of that?"
MGBs were the definition of slow. Very good handling and a very sexy exhaust sound. Sort of like a 4-wheel version of a Harley - the bike you buy if you like a lot of noise but are too chicken to go fast. I really wanted an MGB until I discovered the Lotus Elan. The MGB GT V8 was more interesting. There were some really fast minis around. I used to lust after a Janspeed 1293
Janspeed
I still hear the occasional MGB and the sound is still good.
