That it'll deprive you of all sense and senses? Nope, that's not a guess. That's hard earned, ummm... wisdom

But luckily there was no lake with thin ice nearby at the time

I need some fellow man sympathy, I think I have a head cold, either that or I've developed hay fever after all these years.
Haven't had a cold in I can't remember when, rough night, didn't get up until 7:20, feel like crap.
Here is an old tried and true cure for a cold.

1) Take a hat and a bottle of whiskey into your bedroom.

2) Place the hat on a bedpost.

3) Get into the bed.

4) Start drinking the whiskey and keep on drinking until you see two hats.

5) Lay back to sleep it off. When you wake up the cold will be gone.

Nah, it's not that cold here. Some (like me) struggle with the darkness, though. Sunrise at 10am and sunset at 3pm is not my kind of fun. Or up north, sunset in November, sunrise in January

But there are good things, too. Like 5 weeks of paid vacation

He could try here:
Not as cold as at your place. Rarely gives the inconvenience of snow.
Winter sunrise about 0800 and sunset about 1600, so the commute is in the dark but not too bad through the day.
Summer sunrise and sunset do give some time for sleep.
And I get 30 days of annual leave, plus the standard bank holidays. (All paid.)
And much less work to take home than in Australia.

I could handle that! I imagine I'd need to sell my guns or pass them along to my mom first.

You won't need them. No one else has one. Releases quite a bit of capital for other interesting things.

Nah, depends on what you've got. Some kinds are ok, others not (like anything full auto), but unless you're active at the range (participating in some competitions) or hunting you'll be allowed to have just a handful (3 or 4, I think). The rules differ from country to country, but lots of people hunt in the Nordics.

If you are really keen you can join a range club here, and the easy way to keep it is to arrange with the range club that they hold it in their safe. Saves you the expense and effort of proving that your storage facility complies because it relieves you from having to have a storage facility. Also shifts the liability in the unlikely event of theft from the range club.

I simply enjoy target shooting.

Also, if you think guns are expensive, try astrophotography.

Guns are not (necessarily) expensive. Ammo can be. Loading your own helps. But yeah, plenty of opportunities for target practice, no worries.

Oh, and we do have bacon and cheese both, as well as beer, so all basic needs should be covered.

I ordered liver and onions at Phil's the other night, and was happy to read the description where it says it comes with a piece of bacon on top. I was even more pleased when it actually came with two pieces of bacon!
