Ouch. Sorry to hear that.
My friend is a skinny cyclist. Go figure!

Depends on too many things. Cannot predict. It is shocking when someone who looks in good shape fails.

Of course, he's still lucky. The whole escapade will cost him $0.

Is that including the ride in the meat wagon?

Often ask my American friends which country gives them free medical care because they tell them they are an American. I got free care in NZ because they saw me show an Australian passport to get through the gate at the airport. hey did not even ask to look at my passport for themselves.

When I worked at the electric utility safety was paramount. All employees were required to take first aid training, CPR, and in later years AED (automatic defibrilator) training, every two years.

Working in the Big Shed, where safety is also paramount, you would think the same would be true.

Meh.

Not so much.

If I wanted to keep my CPR and AED certification current, it would be on my time, at my expense.

Whatever.

I remember how to do chest compressions and rescue breaths, and how to apply first aid to injured people. Been doing it since I was a Cub Scout. Like riding a bike, you never forget how to do it.

I'm medically trained, I can help.

Where I work we have a little poster with the pictures of the first aid officers.

Two are crossed out because they were made redundant almost a year ago. Another one is on limited hours of attendance and I never see him. So …, practically there is one or none.

I can’t work from home.

What happens in the Big Shed, stays in the Big Shed.

Well, at least until one is completed, then it gets delivered to the customer and flies off into the friendly skies.

It would have to be 32 miles long.

You could try doing it with remote control robotics, just like the surgeons who have a go at a hack and slash (third world farmer style) on your prostate when it needs to provide the surgeon with a new car.

Yes, we have a system here called "Wellington Free Ambulance". All meat wagon rides are free.

Then my employer's travel insurance company got ripped off. I was travelling for work when the event occurred. The ride was NZD725. The taxi ride to go back was about NZD35.

Not my problem.

Unless you were ferried by St Johns? They operate in the rest of New Zealand (other than Wellington/Wairarapa) and do charge - not locals of course!

Much of the build is too complex for robotic manufacture, or execution via remote device. The airplanes are still largely built by hand. Parts are indexed in tooling, clamped up, then drilled, removed, cleaned and deburred, inspected and then assembled.

Robotic and automated drilling and assembly has been implemented where it can be, and works well. It still requires human operators though, and they need to be present during the operations to intervene should the machines have any technical issues.
