Thanks.

I like to have fun with avatars. Lately I had been trying to find pictures of guys with a cameras to use, to go with my user title, but just like last time I was laid up, I stuck a universal handicapped symbol up, and now one of the special needs kids from Southpark.

I might have a few more before this is over.

I'd like to find a picture of a kid with leg braces and crutches like they had in the March Of Dimes ads back in the 50's and 60's.

Thank you.

Was suppose to get stitches out today, but there is still too much swelling, so next week. Got another splint on, went on my way and made a day out of it.

Mrs. Racer 2.0 and I had an early dinner out together, Chinese, then she went to the market for groceries and we came home.

Hey, I got a handicapped parking placard. We park at the wheelchair spaces right up front everywhere we go. Makes us feel special, getting to park closer to the door than everyone else.

You can't go on temporary disability? Or do you want to keep accruing more leave and sick time with a full paycheck?
Actually, I do have a temporary disability policy (part of the union negotiated benefit package) that pays about $300 a week, primarily to keep the medical insurance active, and provide a modest amount of cash to help out. I have applied for, and will be receiving it for the duration after a two week waiting period.

But.

I need to stay on paid status, so I don't lose seniority (this is not a work related injury), and to avoid having to dip too deeply into my savings to meet the monthly bills. Also, my retirement savings account only gets money put into it if I'm on paid status, receiving a paycheck.

But the pay is all sick leave and vacation pay, not regular earnings, so none of it counts towards the hours worked that are used to compute the sick leave and vacation accrual, so I won't be earning any addition sick leave or vacation pay until I go back to something where I will be earning regular pay again.

And that is part of my plan.

The vacation pay should be exhausted around January 4. I am going to ask the company for a light duty assignment on January 2, when they start back up again after the holiday break. We get paid (another union negotiated benefit) Christmas day through January 1 holiday pay, weekends excluded, and the factory shuts down, so being on paid status I also get the holiday pay, which reduced how much of my vacation pay I burn up. Hopefully they can accommodate my temporary disability and place me somewhere that supports the build, but considers my limitations.

I doubt I will be even close to 100% before May or June.

Two years ago the left foot took 8 months and then I did several more months of modified duty.

Snow Removal
Post of the day!

Great show!

I especially liked the commentary, like the closing:

You might be better off dropping the flamethrower entirely. Instead, take a cue from the rail agencies, who use jet-engine-powered snowblowers to clear train tracks.
Just like those stock car racers using jet engines to dry the race track so they can race.

Keep practicing, all that snow up your way should make it all come together.

You can't just edit my post like that! It screws up the context.

And the chi of the thread.

But I have to admit, I've done similar things.

Sort of an abuse of power I suppose, but it was for a good cause.

Yep, he takes these questions to the next level. Good book as well (What If?).

I'll tell ya, beginner unicycler and ice do not mix.

I've got a pair of studded tyres on a mountain bike, but not on the unicycle.

But at least he is getting paid for the time away from the shed. Much better than having to support himself before the cashflow of pension starts to come in when he officially retires.

Great, thanks for asking.

The swelling has gone down considerably.

Sitting in the docs office as I type, went in for the two week follow up. He is a bit late, they say the surgery he had earlier today is running long.

No big deal, I have time.

He is supposed to remove the stitches today, but the assistant has already removed last weeks splint and she says he might not remove all of them just yet, as the swelling is still a little much in some areas. I’ll find out when he gets here.

Supposed to get an actual cast today, we’ll see.

It is tolerable sitting in the doctor's office waiting room unless other customers come in and start doing obnoxious things, such as disgorging dinner into plastic bags affixed to rigid plastic rings with handles.

No, that would be totally unlike you, wouldn't it.

-5°C this morning, going to go down towards the weekend, they say. At least it keeps the snow from turing into slush.

Strange how -5°C feels so cold when the temp's dropping, but is t-shirt weather at the end of winter.

Touched instead of tough maybe?
The whole thing was stuffed. Instead of saying "They breed them tough" it came out "They breed then though"
