I didn't catch which car, but the announcer just said that when a car came in for gas and tires, the crew was clearing debris from the grille, and found a $5 bill stuck to it.

Talk about a lucky sign!

By the way.

Today is the Superbowl of racing, the Great American Race, the Daytona 500.

In fact they just gave the command to start engines, so the pace laps will be getting underway momentarily.

Today is the culmination of Speedweeks, which began a few weeks ago with the 24 Hours of Daytona, then last weekend the Clash, followed by Thursday's Twin 150 Qualifying races, the Pickups ran Friday, the Grand National on Saturday, and today, the Big One with the Cup Cars.

The racing season in the Northern Hemisphere has begun.

Strap in, mash the loud pedal, and no whining.

Oh yeah.
Speed week used to be a one week thing. And great fun. Daytona gets pretty busy with Speed Weeks.

The "Big One" just happened. Ten laps to go. More than half the field was caught up in it. Red flag while they clear the mess.

The Oscar Mayer and Smithfield cars are both out.

That means no wieners or bacon.

Say it ain't so.

There nave been two more Big Ones since the one I mentioned a while ago.

Only about a third of the field is still in competition.

Number 42, Kyle Larson, has had a very bad Speedweeks. Today he has wrecked the car more times than anyone, yet he is still in contention.

Amazing . . . . .

Denny Hamlin has won the 2019 Daytona 500 (his second win there), driving the FedEx Toyota, for Joe Gibbs Racing (yes, coach Joe Gibbs). And Gibbs Racing finished 1,2,3.

Awesome.

I think there were only 11 cars running at the finsh.

What a slugfest.

By the way, the racing community has lost a couple of great guys.

Sam was 5 years younger than I, and JD nearly young enough to be my son.
