Thanks, Racer
Honestly, I think it's
very plain from the rear. It's
slightly more attractive out front, but looks smaller because of the garage which hides the rooms behind. It's really just a typical early '90s family home (though rather well constructed, considering), but it's in a quiet and well-kept development and those factors mean a lot to me. It's not even remotely comparable to your beautiful home and setting... but I like living here. It's comfortable, and the location is near-perfect for this stage of my life, as I'm just a short walk (or two minute drive) from beautiful open farm-land and moors, yet only six miles to Durham City which is very pretty, historically fascinating, and has good shops, restaurants etc.
This is what my humble abode looks like from the front, courtesy of Google (a rather out-of-date shot, admittedly, before I had some tidy-up and clean-up work done on the drive and roof, and replacement of the garage doors).

Which means there is a fireplace in the house, right?
So cook over the fire in the fireplace.
Like our ancestors did.
Nostalgic, eh?
Nice idea
Yeah, it has a chimney... and a sort-of-Inglenook, but there's a fully-enclosed log-burning stove in it. Big enough to keep most of the ground floor warm, but hardly convenient for cooking
