I tried shooting the moon once.

Used my Mini 14. It is very accurate, and chambered for 556, which I prefer over 223. Emptied a full 50 round magazine and every shot fell short.

It has good range, but the moon must be too far away.

I had one of those. Fun to shoot. Great first shot accuracy but as the barrel warmed up groups opened up too. I have heard that the newer ones do not have this problem. Traded it in on an M1 Garand. That is one awesome rifle. Being a lefty I get two pings when the clip ejects. Once when it ejects and a second one as it bounces off my skull.

i have to wonder where those spent rounds fall to earth

and how dangerous they may be if they hit someone when they do

Had to try Mark's braaibroodjie for lunch today. I was sorely tempted to put bacon on it, but resisted.
White bread (it was whole grain white, Racer) tomato, white cheddar, and onion. Instead of butter on the bread I used mayo.
Tasted damn good!

The only thing missing is a fried egg in there

Well, you could use it but there might be an argument about it's legitimacy!
