Worked my share of holidays in the Air Force... No bigs, but no overtime either. If you had a decent boss you could get comp time.

just checking the Grand Prize raffle thread

no one made it in on Day 1, but people have been joining every day since

and of course there is no telling how many members, once qualified, have earned additional chances in the raffle

I wonder if we will get members qualifying 29 out of the 30 days

100 posts a day... If I could do that I’d become a ditch diggin’ fence layin’ Fool!

But, instead, I think I’ll fly to Maui in the morning and spend a week snorkeling and sightseeing and not buying a K-3. Pretty sure it won’t even cross my mind... <GRIN>

"Your flight is delayed and I think it will keep getting delayed."

That's a new way of putting it, at least... Rebooked to another flight just to find out that the next leg is almost 4 hours delayed - which means we'll leave Johannesburg closer to 2 am. Which means we'll land in London well after our onwards flight to Oslo has left.

The joys of international air travel.

good luck on your trip

this is what happened to me -

plane delayed at departing airport and I was told -

" oh you will get to your transfer airport in plenty of time to catch the connection despite the delay go back to your seat "

arrived at transfer airport 20 minutes after connecting flight had left

a trip that was to take 4 hours - took 12 hours

you can believe that I complained when I got home about how I was told to sit down and not seek alternative flight

got some compensation but not enough

no comparison to problems with international flights

________________________________

my original flight Kansas City to Chicago to Bozeman Montana

ended up KC to Chicago to Salt Lake to Bozeman

with long layovers in Chicago and Salt Lake

my checked luggage went straight to Montana

and I was traveling with a damaged leg so I could not move around without assistance

didn't blame the weather which would have gotten me nowhere [ rightfully do ]

but rather how I treated - in effect - shut up and sit down you have no problem

ended up that customer service agent had a big problem when I got back home

I've flown enough on business trips to know that I need to check my options and be assertive. Don't just take what airline agents tell you initially. At the same time, don't be an ass. On my last business trip, on the way out I knew I would miss my connection and the delay would be more than two hours - I asked and got re-ticketed on a competitors flight. Gave up my nice seat and perks, but I got there. On the way home, the whole system was screwed up for all carriers. I rebooked three times that day and my wife drove five hours to pick me up. But I got to my destination THAT day. Because the issue was weather related, airlines won't pay for lodging. I saved spending a night at my expense. My second rule on business travel is if it is a critical item, don't check it. And if it is not critical, think very very hard about taking it period. That rule is how I was able to (somewhat) rebook as needed throughout that miserable day and get to my destination with all my stuff.

my big problem flying in and out of Kansas City and even from major airports to smaller destinations is that I cannot tell how large the luggage bins will be inside the passenger compartment

and I tend to take a lot of cameras and lenses on vacations.

so the idea of " gate check " scares me.

one flight the opening for the upper compartment was less than 8 inches !!!!

took gear out and stuffed gear inside sweaters and coats and placed in foot space ahead of our seats

and got real nervous

Who cares?

Posting about that stuff here distracts us from the real important stuff, like someone’s birthday, or saving Tokyo from the livE hociR.
