Similarity between american beer and making love in a canoe... you can finish the punchline yourself
I have to defend American "beer" just a little... I mean, it's not beer - but in the right circumstances, I find it refreshing and enjoyable. For example, it's good for quenching thirst after working in the garden during summer, with a mild alcohol kick as a reward.

Years ago, my ex-wife, son and I went to Florida on vacation, and had a very enjoyable lunch at a catfish, rib and chicken shack. They brewed their own beer which they served at a ridiculously low price per pitcher, and I ordered one to try. It was perfect for the meal... Pretty low in alcohol, I'd say - maybe 2 - 3%? - but inoffensive, ice cold, and it washed our food down nicely. Cooled us down, too, before venturing back into the heat and humidity

In a kayak, you're sitting below the waterline. Canoe, you're above. Better vantage point.
Seeing the open mouth of a grey nurse slightly earlier is an advantage..........your still capsized and maybe eaten or at least mauled.

Happy ocean canoeing / kayaking

see ya soon....in one piece preferably

Hmm... forgot I don't like the ocean...
Change of plans. Staying at home.

Lucky you Dave, you get to escape the bagpipes,

Well, that's about it from me...

Final thought for the night:

Bushy eyebrows? Check.
Nasal hair visible below nostrils? Check.
Ears sprouting cat-like whiskers? Check.
Hair unruly and stubborn to style unless wet straight out of the shower? Check.
Beard even more unruly? Check.
Outer edges of beard projecting further than ears? Check.
Need to wash beard after every meal? Check.
Yup... it's time I visited the barbers for a "full service"

@robtcorl - hope you're starting to feel better soon, Bob

G'night, all

That's what cider's for.
Though don't drink too much, or you'll end up like Thomas Benjamin Wild Esq.

Thanks Mike. Would you mind if we call you Wooly?

I'm still progressing upwards. Our son came this evening to help his mom put up Christmas lights and bring in the faux tree from the garage.
I felt well enough to make cheeseburgers on the barbie and fries in the oven.

But I'll say again... If you want a village razed to a high standard, ask a Viking.

If, on the other hand, you want reasonably-priced, minimalist, self-assembly furniture and light-bulbs with strange fittings and unusual wattage ratings, ask a Swede...
Mrs. Racer 1.0 made a stew once. She used rutabagas, turnips, parsnips, any and every kind of root vegetable that was available in the store.

It actually tasted very good.

But talk about colon blow.

Stuff cleaned me out.

Sheesh!

Our gearhead son was telling me about it, along with many details of the run.
